Although the idea of the electors trying to reverse the vote is occasionally discussed — such as after the incredibly close 2000 election in which George Bush narrowly beat Al Gore — going “faithless” is exceedingly rare.
More than 99 percent of electors throughout American history have voted as pledged, according to an analysis done by the New York Times.
The last faithless elector reared his roguish head back in 2004, when a lone anonymous voter in Minnesota declined to vote for Democrat John Kerry and instead voted for Kerry’s running mate, John Edwards.
The rogue’s vote was purely ceremonial, as Bush already had 286 electoral votes ensuring his re-election.
Faithless electors are barred in only 29 states from ignoring the will of the voters, though the penalties are light. And a faithless elector has never swung an election.
The Founding Fathers created the Electoral College because they were actually “afraid of direct democracy,” according to FactCheck.org.

If I recall correctly, during the Florida recount after the 2000 election, there was a Democrat operative (I believe it was Bob Beckel, but it could have been someone else) who said the party should start identifying the members of the Electoral College and dig up dirt on them. The implication was that they could then be intimidated into giving the election to Al Gore.
They will no go away.....The election is OVER, repeat IT’s over and the American people have spoken. The liberals LOST and the Conservatives won and will soon replace them.

factcheck.org? What tripe. I see a push forming to eliminate the electoral college. Then all the dead, felons, illegals, fictitious and multiple voters’ ballots would count.
I am just pointing out that they are tossing about their perceived options. They are already chattering about this one in particular and even admit it hasn’t happened en masse. But it doesn’t mean they aren’t looking at it.
I would rather discuss it than be blind sided by their unending hubris.
The election results *can* be rejected through the certification process.
If a sufficient # of EC votes defected, then it’s likely they will not certify the count.
That doesn’t do Hillary any good as the PResident will then be chosen by the house and the VP in the Senate.
Here we have a close election BUT to the shock of the LEFT, it failed to follow their plan. First, regard the reaction and mentally reverse it to see the embedded bias at work in the media. If Hillary had won, would we have picture after picture of weeping Trump supporters? Would we have the loser's concession speech given equal or greater billing with the one from the victor? Would we have enraged crowds on the streets protesting the legitimacy of the election?
From this point on, the proven bias of the MSM will build upon these perceptions from the setup that is taken from the Alinsky playbook. It will start with the media being 'forced' to take cognizance of an obvious 'popular' movement, both in the streets and the schools, that have the meme that Trump's election is tainted at best and illegitimate to the LEFT! Given that these actions have STARTED 90 days BEFORE Trump even takes the oath, DEMONSTRATES the SINCERITY of the movement (which, of course, ignores the preceding election!)
Next will come MSM coverage of all of the ills found in our society, hunger, poverty and pollution. All have been present for the Obama Administration but must become the fault of Trump, even before he takes office! The playbook of the LEFT is obvious and predictable YET inevitable and aimed at the LIVs (Low Information Voters) who depend upon MSM for their news and views.
Employ the Electoral College to avoid a Donald Trump presidency.
