PING

Things I noticed in the pictures I wasn’t expecting.

Alexander shown “present” day rather than in his own period.
Bloodthirsty crew
rider with toes pointed down rather than heels down
formal gardens with “keep off the garden” fences
cannon and cannon balls
Dagger worn sideways in scabbard at back of waist for left hand reach

I’m so very glad you like it. Most sincere thank you.

I’m currently trying to tear apart a 6hr recording of the 1991 gulf war when Saddam was trying to pull in Israel, then I’ll go back into the manuscripts and see if I can show them by century. The dating I’m getting pretty consistently, but the origin isn’t always given so I can’t separate the manuscripts by country. But I’m curious to know how much change we’ll see from the 800s to the 1700s. I took Medieval Art, as well as Bosch and Bruegel, but never illuminated manuscripts as a separate class, so I’m learning a lot collecting these.

I'll take the heat for being picky but it is AD 1470-1475.

I have no idea what mung means but I want to thank you for sharing that link.

I expected Van Gogh and Lautrec but Remington and landscapes were unexpected. There was a pleasant surprise at the end of the list with our President and First Lady.

Thanks again for sharing.

Interesting. I’ve always written it the other way. And I make a point of not using the politically correct dating I find these days. I like picky. Can’t guarantee I’ll always remember, though. This form is sort of ingrained in me by now.

Perhaps “mung” is midwestern. Usually means to do in. In this case, it refers to the fact that YouTube compresses a video so severely that moves across an image turn into hops, skips and jumps. VERY frustrating when you are as picky as I am. Do enjoy that term. So I always make the video that I give to YouTube to mung available for downloading if you, too, grind your teeth at jerky moves.

Now I would have thought that the Ancient Chinese and Egyptian would have been unexpected. I still want to do the Lascaux caves. Some of the ancient Sumerian music has the right feel. These videos are all a way of recovering the over fifty year old memories of Art History classes at U of Chicago. It was so exciting to remember a particular pot or a particular statue again.

I’m very glad you enjoyed them. I came to FR because I needed a place that loved our first family as much as I do, and I fear too many of my friends are liberal and don’t. It’s just a joy to put the first family to music. I was pretty sure I had not put the Trump videos in this fine arts playlist, so I’m confused what list was presented to you by YouTube. I find our President and First Lady (do love writing that) on the Patriotic/Political Musical Tributes playlist.

A video on both lists that I strongly recommend is the Fireworks to Beethoven’s 9th.

I mean this to be construction but it is time to un-ingrain it and fortunately it is easy.

B.C. is English and an abbreviation of “Before Christ.”
A.D. is Latin and an abbreviation for “anno Domini,” which is Latin for “in the year of our Lord.”

The year "1776 Before Christ" and "In the Year of Our Lord 1776" are correct. 1776 B.C and A.D. 1776.

The definitions I know. The idea that one goes before and one goes after is what is not making great sense. THAT’S what is going to be continuously confusing. I’m just as likely to reverse which one goes in front or behind, I fear, if I try to go canonical. New information, like phoneme analysis, is not a big deal to learn - even at my advanced age. It’s old habits that, as they say, die hard. But thanks for the push.

My expertise in a number of fields is great. My idiocy in others is legend. I can still remember being shocked to learn that Cuba wasn’t off California. Geography and geometry will always be my bugaboos. I will now add BC and AD to those. But I truly enjoy your corrections. Keep after me!

Keep after me!

"2018 in the year of our lord"

or

"In the year of our lord 2018"?

Let's see how you use the word "gender".

Both identical in my mind.

Gender? Don’t see the connection, but I’m a woman who has always adored men. I LOVE being female. And I feel sad around people who are confused about their gender, and furious that people try to put that onto innocent children.

Apparently it’s NOT canonical. Just checked Wikpedia (yes, I know) and dates given as

Roman and Byzantine Egypt 30 BC–641 AD

Maybe you’re playing with the religious aspect of the dates and trying to make a point that’s on the edge? My only interest in BC and AD is tradition. I see no reason for today’s social scientists to try to get the historical religious information out as if it didn’t exist, so I refuse to use the new BCE. But I see no reason to emphasize anything religious in dating. It’s historical to me only. Nothing about religion.

Both identical in my mind.

Gender has to do with grammar, not sex.

Sex is about humans, not grammar. Your sex is female, not your gender is female.

Do you adore gender with men or do you prefer sex?

When was the last time you pondered if the gender was good for you?

I did hate Latin in high school. And Russian and French in college. May I never see another gender or declension. And you are funny!
