The Mamas
&
The Papas
Wow, I didn’t know people misused the apostrophe so long ago. I thought that little bit of societal breakdown started in the ‘90s.
That album came out in 1967.
Thought another group did that first maybe the sharells?
I hope you don't mind if I add a few more songs by them, that you don't hear anywhere anymore.
Phillips was a beauty.
This group, hands down, had the best harmonies I’ve ever heard.
Before they were known as the Mamas and Papas they were called the Mugwamps. They used to perform regularly at the Shadows in D.C. and at Shadows II in Virginia Beach. Even back then Mama Cass wore her trademark big polka dot dress. I’m talking ‘62 to ‘64.
CSN&Y wasn't bad either. But you're right.
Also (and apropos of your screen name) The BeeGees weren’t too shabby on the harmony work either.
They did but it was only the internet that allowed the rise of the grammar nazi's (Lower case "N" intentional) to surface and assert their irrelevant and pseudo intellectual intelligence in order to convince their readers that they are somehow more intelligent than those they are "grammarizing" (Not a real word, I made that up myself)....
Thank you. Loved MaMa Cass. Remember the day she passed.
“Monday, Monday” was a big hit in Europe at the beginning of July, 1966. As we drove through northern France, the pop stations we were listening to played it more than any other song.
When I first heard them sing over the radio, I though they were a much larger group. I was surprised to find out that they were only a quartet.
"San Francisco" - Scott McKenzie
(One of the lines in that song - "...be sure to wear some flowers in your hair..." is sort of prescient, as that seems like a good idea if you have to go to S.F. today, in order to try to somewhat mask the stench of their public poop policy!)
Dream a Little Dream of Me--Wayne King & His Orchestra
That got lots of airplay on Boss Radio 93 KHJ as well as KRLA. Both stations packed 50,000 watts of power as they blasted the Southland with rock.
