Strained or lost relationships because of politics

Posted on 11/17/2019 7:13:16 AM PST by neverevergiveup

How many FReepers have lost or strained relationships with family, friends, co-workers, etc. because of your support for Trump and/or for being a conservative? Clearly, there is a lot of actual hatred out there, and it has already turned violent. The left want to remove a duly elected US President, because they don't like him. They don't care about the opinions of their fellow citizens who voted for him and support him, and they are perfectly willing to disenfranchise them - or worse. I thought having people weigh in about their experiences would help to understand how widespread this is, and how deep the split in the US is.

I’m done with them both.

The example from Jesus in the Bible is to speak the truth. If they don’t want to hear it, “shake the dust from your feet and move on.”

Find someone that does want to hear it. We will be doing a lot of shaking of dust but eventually we will find fellow warriors.

They don’t want us to find fellow warriors and group up. They want to keep us separated. Find new friends and family....................

Conservatism is a way of a life and a philosophy which informs and guides most basic aspects of one’s daily life. Its more than just choosing political teams to root for.

I don’t make enemies because of it, but if someone disagrees with my basic principles in an extreme way, its going to be very difficult to be close friends with them because it means we aren’t aligned in basic ways like views on faith/religion, self-responsibility, morality, social ethics, etc...

My little brother was born on April Fools day. I was born on Flag Day. That auspicious start should give everyone a hint as to our political leanings. He has made his home in Washington DC, Austin Texas, and now Portland Oregon. I live in a conservative county in a Red State. We are polar opposites. Not only in politics, but in religion and morality and in life.

We have had bitter arguments and we go for years without speaking. Even now after 40 years we speak on vague superficial terms. If at all.

My wife’s Filipino family are all Trump supporters. Even her gay cousin. It makes for tension-free gatherings.

I clam up at confrontations. Just listening to people talk tends to show me who to be careful with. People who say they aren’t libs give themselves away by the cliches and buzzwords they use, like “sustainable” or “climate change” or “orange man bad”. They also tend to be the ones who give me the feeling that under the surface they are quietly on the ‘raw edge’ of some overdue rant. It’s tiring to be around them for very long, but as long as the conversation stays in the hobby zones, things stay normal.

A huge part of the Satanic leftist plan was/is to politicize EVERYTHING. Leave no subject untainted. Politics, sports, weather... morality, ethics, rule of law, religion... everything.

A liberal SIL of mine totally threw me under the bus on FB in January. Instead of asking a liberal friend to back off of being rude for no other reason than I’m a Trump supporter, she backed him. I would have never let a FB friend of mine dis anyone, especially family. And especially when the people have never met. I told my husband I’m not going to put up with that crap even from a family member. Then she started texting me that her friend was well versed on the positions & she never knew anyone who studied the issues as throughly as he. Apparently conservatives don’t know how to research an issue & come to a logical conclusion. I don’t play those types of games. I’ve been done with her since. Luckily we live on opposite coasts so I don’t have to interact with her. Life is too short to deal with idiots.

I temporarily lost a few former high school classmate email friends in the run-up to the 2016 election because they were for Cruz and I was hardcore for Trump. Especially after Trump won the GOP primary. They didn't think Trump had a chance in hale to win and Cruz did.

But that has all changed, not because I no longer favor Trump but because after Trump was elected, they are all hardcore for Trump now. All is forgiven.

They were afraid that since Trump had no track record as a politician and had been a registered democRAT at one time, that he would govern as a liberal. Not so after he was elected.

The only people I stay in touch with have always been conservatives. I don't count any liberals in my circle of friends online or in person. My family is limited to my sister and brother and they are both conservatives. None of us talk politics when we are together. We talk family matters.

It's best to avoid liberals at all cost. You can catch the cooties from them. 😂

Life is very short. You have the family you are born with and the family you choose. I divested my self of any LIB lunatic friends and family decades ago. My chosen family (some birth family) and I do very well. Life is too short to bother with LIB lunatics causing difficulty.

My Bernie Sanders-voting schoolteacher brother. We've been close our whole lives but barely talk anymore. I can't have a conversation with him where he doesn't intentionally segue to politics and become agitated. He truly believes that President Trump called neo-Nazis "good people" in Charlottesville.

I asked him, "name me a policy Trump has enacted that makes your life miserable." He told me that he couldn't but everyone is just so angry and violent these days. I replied, "Yeah, Democrats are the ones beating people up!"

I’ve manage to turn quite a few liberal friends and family members to vote R and modulate their leftist leanings. All of my siblings are conservatives and I’m sure their children are being raised with those core beliefs. My husband was apolitical but now he’s staunchly a conservative. Those friends who are lost to the dark side are not worth knowing. My best friend’s brother is best friends with Mayor Jim Kenney. She doesn’t vote and found my political rantings amusing.

Ah, the tolerance of the Left, eh? Ask them to explain their hatred of Trump and they can’t come up with an intelligent answer. My wife’s older sister lives outside of San Francisco and used to call all the time. She found out we’re conservatives and she’s stopped calling.

Thanks for you kind words. But now that both my parents are gone I really don’t care if I ever hear from my sister and my two younger brothers again. They chose this course, not me.

We saw this vile left wing hatred emerge, when we started the impeachment against Bubba Clinton.

People in everyday life in town, co workers, neighbors, church goers and others let us and others know that we were scum of the earth for daring to impeach Bubba.

If we had a conservative bumper sticker for our side on a vehicle, that made that vehicle a target of vile left wingers including female cops stopping you for violating nothing.

These people are never invited to our home for any reason nor event.

If they try to send their poison via email or texting, we block them.

If they still try to spew their vile poison, when we run into them in town, my wife says no thank or ignores them.

I tell them, there is a reason why we have not had a discussion for years, and you know why. Then, I walk away or hang up if on a phone. Thanks to our phones with caller ID, we just don’t answer their calls.

We don’t need these people in our life anymore than we need ABCNNBCBS and the local tv faux news tell us how dumb and stupid we are.

My brother and I don’t talk any more. We were never that close but did not engage in any political arguments.. We steered clear of politics because we knew we disagreed. Then he went off the deep end during and after the 2016 election and became a raving Trump-hating lunatic on Facebook...so I unfollowed his posts. Since then, neither of us have made an attempt to get back in contact. No personal animus (at least not from me), but he lives far away in Left-o-Land and I have no idea what we would talk about.

I was born November 6th. It just so happened that I turned 18 on election day in 1984. I cast my first vote ever for Ronald Reagan.

I have not lost any friends of family over politics. Some casual acquaintances have cut me out. I have never cut anyone off because of their politics...

LOL! Actually I do serve top shelf hard liquor.

To be honest, if I really added up everything I spend for a family holiday dinner for 20 to 24, I probably spend at least $500.00. Thanksgiving is actually the cheapest meal to do because even a premium Butterball turkey is relatively cheap per pound.

I usually spend close to $200 on fresh floral arrangements which I do myself. The $200 is what I pay (wholesale) to the flower market. If I bought the same arrangements retail from a florist, the cost for flowers would triple at minimum.

I downplay what I spend so Mr RooRoo’s head does not explode LOL.
