FORT WORTH -- A 51-year-old Navy veteran whose body was found in a DeSoto apartment had been dead for about three years.
A cause of death for Rodney Wayne White is pending toxicology reports and other tests, according to the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office.
White was found dead last week on the kitchen floor of his apartment at DeSoto Town Center. DeSoto police found no evidence of foul play, according to Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV.
His mother, Doris Stevens, told WFAA-TV she didn't know how her son could have been dead in the apartment for so long and nobody knew anything about it.
"When the medical examiner told me three years, my knees gave away. Three years? And that's what I can't get past in my brain," Doris Stevens told WFAA. "I can't get past three years."
Stevens, who lives in Long Island, New York, said she became suspicious about three years ago when her son's phone calls stopped. White, who was single after being divorced for about 20 years, was a defense contractor who traveled the world on his job.

Mr. White was frequently out of the country and his bills were paid through automatic withdrawals from his accounts.
If he was dead how did money get into his accounts?
Sounds like an episode from “NCIS”.
Navy pension covered the small stuff?
Direct deposits.
I am sure his grocery bill dropped his expenses.
So was he 51 when he died or 48 when he died?
"When the medical examiner told me three years, my knees gave away. Three years? And that's what I can't get past in my brain," Doris Stevens told WFAA. "I can't get past three years."
Nobody in the family called or checked up on him for three years???

Hell, maybe a slight bit more effort should have been made on her part to find out what happened to him.
Well, it seems to have escaped her notice.
“If he was dead how did money get into his accounts?”
Automatic deposit. That is if he was making any money - Navy pension? No one knew he was dead so maybe he still received some payments for something.
Sad, very sad.....................
Given a) automatic payments, b) automatic SS deposits, and c) our lonely culture, this might actually be happening quite a bit.
Stevens, who lives in Long Island, New York, said she became suspicious about three years ago when her son’s phone calls stopped.
Wait.. Your son stopped calling you and 3 years later you are shocked he was dead for 3 years? You never thought in all those years to call the Police in his area and have a welfare check done? WTH!
Bet his mother feels bad for not calling......
Yeah LOL
They were a tight family!! :)
Nobody reads articles!
Read the article?
Quite a Mom!
I recall a similar story a few years back. Guy had a heart attack watching TV in his apartment. Automatic deposits and payments keep the place running. He was dead for years before anybody noticed. Weirdly the picture tube in the TV had blown from being on constantly for that long.
Obviously you never thought to read the article!
