One of my older videos. I love art videos, but story-telling videos are what makes it for me.

Say what you want about Shatner being a ham (and let’s face it.. there’s a lot to be said) but he could really sell those moments when he had to stand silently and react to horrow and tragedy with just his facial expressions. Sure he’s a ham but back then at least he knew when and how to reign it in to great effect.

they didn’t have huge show budgets, they had to rely on other things...the best they could

One of the oldest known languages is Sanskrit.
Commander, in Sanskrit, means,
The one to whom we entrust our beloved.

Sure hes a ham
In "Star Trek", he played a captain who himself was a ham. Perfect casting. And just by sticking around, doing record albums, Canadian grocery store ads, "Airplane!" cameos, Oldsmobile ads, TJ Hooker, Denny Crane, Priceline ads, game shows, he managed to transcend his own typecasting.

But they must know as soon as they put on the red shirt that they’re expendable. Someone else has to be left alone on guard duty with a dangerous alien stalking nearby so that the series doesn’t lose regulars.

I’m sure I’ve read fanfic that includes a going away party for the redshirts going on a mission with Kirk.

Well said! It’s going to be hard to lose Shatner - but he’s figured out a way to live forever. ;)

I did. The music is lovely. The video is a traditional music video.
From the time I started making music videos, I tried to explain the difference as traditional music videos being fine arts turned kinetic. What I do with fan videos is literary. I take the lyrics and attempt to redefine them in a new context in a way that will become so natural that it almost seems the song was written for that context when, in fact, it’s something altogether different. That means that a great many songs are completely inappropriate for literary song videos - like anything by the Beatles - when repetition is the bones of the song rather than a story.
It took me DECADES to find a fandom to use for “Boys of Summer” by Don Henley. Finally found one with Deep Space Nine - Worf/Jadzia - but I can’t put it up on YouTube. Sigh.

Their chances already go down wearing a shirt that says "hello, I'm right here".

Last week, I went to the Toyota Music center in Irving, Texas for a screening of "Wrath of Khan" and "A night of conversation with William Shatner". Bill spoke for about an hour after the movie ended, giving his insight on how that film kicked open the franchise to all that has followed, and reflected on everything from his co-stars and the guest hot babe du' jour, to driving - while already decked out in costume - his Corvette out to Vazquez Rocks before dawn for early filming on-site.
He had some interesting observations about how the recent Star Trek movies have been bent in the direction of "action" movies and away from sci-fi - and harkened back to his days on the stage when the rule was "Feed the beast" (meaning, give the audience what it wants). He seems unconcerned by the J.J. Abrams reboot in terms of style, blaming most of it on an audience that wants more "Iron Man" and less "Forbidden Planet". In that, he's probably correct. It was an enjoyable evening. Although Bill rambled a bit once or twice in stringing his thoughts together, I think he's remarkable for his age. Lots of energy, too - he only briefly sat in the big leather chair on stage to speak with the moderator (local radio guy), preferring to pace back and forth near the footlights of the stage.

Damn! I was thoroughly entertained for a change. WEll done sir. Your focus proves (to me) that Shatner is a far better actor than he is given credit for.
Thanks.
