Some want D.C.'s Lincoln statue gone. Others point out: Freed Black Americans paid for it.

""I'm here to speak on behalf of the legacy of Charlotte Scott," said Marcia Cole, a member of the Female RE-Enactors of Distinction (FREED) who portrays Scott. FREED is an auxiliary organization of the African American Civil War Museum.

"I understand there's a big campaign trying to raise money to either take it down or mend it, and I say 'no' on behalf of Ms. Charlotte," she said. "People tend to think of that figure as being servile but on second look you will see something different, perhaps. That man is not kneeling on two knees with his head bowed. He is in the act of getting up. And his head is up, not bowed, because he's looking forward to a future of freedom."

That man is not kneeling on two knees with his head bowed. He is in the act of getting up. And his head is up, not bowed, because he’s looking forward to a future of freedom.”

That’s what I saw when I saw the statue on the news this week.

I read that Frederick Douglas spoke at its dedication.

But, if you’re just intent on destruction, well, join the antifa-taliban.

Well they say that black slaves built the White House so I guess it’s next to be torn down; maybe rebuilt by illegal aliens?

And yet, they don’t mind carrying pictures of Lincoln and Washington in their wallet.

I believe the WH was rebuilt in the 1940s. They said they could still smell the burnt timbers from the British Invasion of 1812.

But, but there is a portrait of George Washington, SLAVE OWNER, on the side of it!

Mark Levin had the best answer to this, that Lincoln was shot in the back of his head and gave up his life to free the slaves, murdered by a confederate Democrat, statue dedicated by U.S. Grant. Together Grant and Lincoln sacrificed 600,000 Americans, including Lincoln himself, to the cause of ending slavery. This is the FIRST statue of Lincoln.

Lincoln damn well earned that statue.

"I read that Frederick Douglas spoke at its dedication."

He dedicated the monument. Freezer C19fan posted the link to the full speech yesterday. I've posted it below. I tried calling the office of Eleanor Holmes Norton yesterday, but her office was closed because of the virus, and she offered no voicemail option. It really ticked me off because just a day or so earlier, she was taped being interviewed on a D.C. by Andrea Mitchell. That's the same video that shows the guy in the pink see-through outfit charging them.

The speech is well worth reading:

Ignoring the fact that after he was president, Washington retired to Pennsylvania where the state law allowed slaves to be given their freedom. Not only did Washington’s last will and testament give his slaves freedom, but they were given substantial land holdings- the descendants becoming very rich with that land. Ignored in schools these days.

Ms. Cole also talks about the shackle and chain in this video. That if people looked, they’d see his chain has been broken, representing freedom.

honestly, I don’t think any of this statue-toppling has to do anything with slavery. It’s an excuse to be exploited by the antifa/anarchists/isis-types of multiple ethnicities, who want specifically to express their hatred of America in general and/or their own inner self-loathing in particular.

Sometimes I wonder if it’s a symptom of societies’ marginalization and feminization of men. The women now insist on taking the parts of men in the protests, as active if not more, in cussing out the police line, actively vandalizing, looting and beating up others, and in creating chaos, leaving the men not much to do except hang around the back fringes and act out for attention. For some, it’s probably the first time they’ve felt machismo in years.

I read that speech that Frederick Douglass gave - twice. Nowhere in there did I see any hint that Mr. Douglass was displeased in any way with the monument. Unless I am missing something, it appears that either Eleanor Holmes has not read that address or is lying. Considering her history with the truth, I know which way I am leaning...

I saw pictures of the gutted WH at that time - Truman lived in Blair house during the rebuilding. In any case, uneducated liberal idiots will demand it’s destruction.
