Apple cider vinegar is my go-to all-purpose nostrum.

Great for sore throat when diluted about an ounce in eight ounces of fruit juice, tea or whatever.

It will bring tears to your eyes, and you make the most awful facial wince, but cough and soreness gown within hours. Regular vinegar is not nearly so effective.

What works best? The women’s nylons or the bbq briquettes to remove the humidity?

I put bbq briquettes in women’s nylons, then hang them in my gun safes to dehumidify them, keep the moisture down.

Clean tarnished silver with baking soda:

Line a sink or plastic tub with aluminum foil, shiny side up. Place silver pieces on foil. Sprinkle generously with baking soda. Bring a pot of water to a boil, pour over silver (baking soda will foam)and wait a few minutes. Remove silver with tongs.

Naturally you cannot use that on silver jewelry with set stones. Plain silveritems only.

I use half white vinegar & half Dawn in a spray bottle for a shower/tub cleaner. The vinegar fumes can be a little overwhelming, but it’s cheap & beats just about every other cleaner I’ve ever used. If you heat the vinegar first, it mixes better with the Dawn. This is my #2 favorite DIY.

#1 Favorite is a granite top cleaner that does not hurt the granite: 1/2 cup Isopropyl alcohol to 1.5 cups water plus 1/4 tsp dish detergent & put in a spray bottle. I use it on everything ... counters, fridge/microwave door handles, glass stove top, etc.

I did a modified version we carry in the vehicles for cleaning hands after shopping - an 8 oz spray bottle filled almost to the top with Isopropyl alcohol (70%), a drop or 2 of Dawn, and a squirt of aloe vera (so the alcohol doesn’t “eat” your hands!). We spray our hands down, work it all around between fingers, up wrists, etc. (can use it to clean door handles, steering wheel if need be) & air dry (or dry with a fresh paper towel). You want to destroy the outer fat layer of the virus which renders it unable to function. At least 60% alcohol will do it & I think a little Dawn with its anti-grease action is good for insurance. When this virus thing started, there was NO hand sanitizer to be found, so this is what we came up with & we’re still using it.

The knock offs don’t work like the brand.

Mr. mm knew someone who worked for a company where they were trying to reverse engineer Dawn to figure out what makes it so great. They knew it worked great, there was no doubt, but they could not figure out what is in it.

Dawn is also great for cleaning feet. Put a little in a dishpan/footbath and fill with warm water, then soak your feet for 20 minutes.

Dawn is good for washing cars too.
