HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -- A second pregnant woman in Hawaii who was hospitalized with COVID has died after giving birth, the chair of the Hawaii State Maternal Review Committee confirmed.
The woman’s baby survived and is reported to be healthy.
The maternal death is the second this month in the islands,

and comes as the state grapples with an ongoing surge in COVID infections, hospitalizations and fatalities.
In the month of September alone, Hawaii has reported 125 COVID deaths.
Meanwhile, HNN has also confirmed that both women were unvaccinated.
Low vaccination rates among pregnant women locally and nationally have caused growing alarm. Experts stress COVID vaccines are safe for pregnant women and their unborn babies.

So did she die of Covid or did she die following some complication during delivery? The story is seemingly intentionally obscure.
With current definitions, "unvaccinated" includes varying states of partial or recent Jab™bedness, so we really don't know.
She was classified as “unvaccinated”. It would be nice to know if she had received the first dose of vaccine.

A PSA currently airing on TV here in Washington State says that the vaccines are absolutely safe for pregnant women.

Exactly! Hospitals are where you go if you really want to get sick.
In my time in Hawaii, it seems one is a fitness model, or morbidly obese. There’s no in between.
I’m glad the baby survived, though sad without a Mother.
Hopefully “Ohana” take care of the child.

Its a tough call for a pregnant mom-to-be; I am vaxxed, as is everyone my family - but if my wife was pregnant, I think I would have preferred to quarantine almost 100% until after delivery - both to avoid covid and not take on the risk of a new vaccine.
I am sure it wasn’t and easy decision for her.
Exactly the question to ask, if Hawaii did what Uttar Pradesh did, they wouldn’t be going through any of these deaths.
The state death toll is 714. I haven’t read the stats for the month.
BS. Overwhelming majority of patients in my local hospital recovered after checking in with serious covid symptoms.
I would much rather be in Hawaii than in overcrowded and unsanitary Uttar Pradesh. Their record keeping regarding deaths and causes is more unreliable than Chicago weather.
