That figures -- heat pumps are more than 100% efficient (in effect) because all they are is a heat exchange. Buried grids for heating and cooling work fine even here in the snow belt. They're just pricey to install.

It would set a good example for the US Capitol Building, the White House and Supreme Court Building to lead the way in this endeavor. But they’ll undoubtedly exempt themselves from any discomfort the rest of the country will experience.

“....heat pumps are more than 100% efficient...”

From what I’ve researched, they’re a waste of money down here in Texas.

I work in the A/C industry so I’m deeply invested in the results of these government overreaches.

I just blow out all the old oil and get a new drier for the old R12 systems, then refill them with new PAG and R134A. Works just fine... Been doing that since they came out with the 134A, The mechanical system is not smart enough to know what it is compressing, condensing, and evaporating. :)

The conversions were a scam...

Just putting this stuff in the AC and refrigerators as well as cars is going to cost much more than people realize.

Democrat commies behind this regulation KNOW EXACTLY how much damage it will do to our food chains and our economy. It's intentional - an intentional way to damage the country more - more than inflation, more than open borders, more than energy dependence, more than Afghanistan - it's a commie tactic.

So, R12 was bad for the ozone so they went to R134a. That is bad for AGW, so now it’s 1234YF. There will be a problem with that, too, but it will not be announced until we have billions invested in it. In the mean time, leftists theoreticians discuss the inherent immorality of air conditioning. I think there is a pattern here.

The ozone hole is still there, but now it is caused by AGW.

Refrigeration played a big role in enabling our standard of living.

The Watermelon Environmentalist need people desperate enough to want socialism so they undermine whatever makes us comfortable or prosperous.

We should have hung all the commies in the 1950s rather than foolishly relented.

Having R-12 taken out of an antique immaculate campervan would be nice. How does one find someone certified as you in another state? The old condenser sat for a long time and does not condense. The system has lost no R-12 (that is, it will not take a charge.

Thank you for the information. The number of BS “kits” to convert to 134a using the same system as understand it- actually ruins the system/seals ... unless mistaken.

Overall point here was the constant “environmental” push that aids industry that is large enough to be forced to change over, costing citizens billions in the changing, for the reasons of the “ozone layer” “science” which is not, again the variance is solar related. But what do the world eco-socialists care about science if it gets in the way of destroying an economy.

But other problems— Chinese based. Such as a domestic Trane unit had to change out— and guess what— a heat pump valve to change over to heat pump from a/c cooling... the Trane guy told me its-— MADE IN CHINA, and brand new does not freaking work well at ALL. O

Just look up auto repair in the yellow pages. If you're in a populated area of a southern state, your yellow pages might have a section for auto air conditioning. Problem is, most will be set up for R134a and won't want to pull R12 through it. You might find a classic car specialist that is still set up for R12. I have two recovery machines and two recovery tanks. One of each for R12 and one of each for 134a.

Yes-— that is wonderful. Have some friends who are Classic Car cruizers-— who fundraise for needy kids/cancer patients. Bet they have the ability or know who can.

The camper is a time machine. 22.5 real miles, OEM plug wires and plugs... and compression at spec on all cylinders, no wear at all. The auto a/c is the issue, so will check as you suggest. I do not want someone doing a conversion if all it needs is a new compressor that can handle R-12, with the correct oils.

Just one experience in the big ole world. Wish you were “down South” MO is fortunate to have you.
