New York has finally released hospital data that breaks out hospitalizations *with* Covid vs. those *from* Covid, finding 57% of cases statewide are “admitted due to Covid or complications from Covid”:

New York has its first official breakdown of what share of people are hospitalized for COVID vs. how many are hospitalized with incidental COVID. In NYC it's 49% for COVID, everyone else just happened to test positive. pic.twitter.com/fNUmMK2DM9

This follows what we’re seeing in other places, like in Florida:

Across the Jackson Health System hospitals, we currently have 327 patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Of those, 187 patients – or 57 percent – are admitted to the hospital primarily for non-COVID reasons.

New York City led the state in hospitalizations *with* Covid at 51%:

In NYC, 51% of patients who count as "hospitalized with COVID" were admitted for reasons other than COVID and then tested positive for it anyway. https://t.co/QPNMPL69vQ

Doctors are saying they’re not surprised by the numbers:

Not even a tiny bit surprised by this data. So many of our patients and their parents are screening positive on admission for other things. https://t.co/vDUk7VAfz6

Former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb is concerned that what the numbers actually show is that Covid is beign spread “by contact with the healthcare system itself”:

This is much higher than I would have expected and much higher than what was observed in London. Unclear why we’d see so much incidental infection. I’m hearing similar stats in NJ and CT hospitals. Creates some concern could be spreading by contact with healthcare system itself. https://t.co/bxdPisNU7M

We also don’t the Omicron vs. Delta split:

Would bet Delta is spreading upstate and Omicron in the city. Still, HALF, is a massive number. https://t.co/w5NnYhLb6c
