WASHINGTON (AP) _ Alice Frazier welcomes everybody into her home with a big hug and an offer of some food, maybe her famous potato salad. On Wednesday, Queen Elizabeth II came calling.
She declined the potato salad, but got the hug anyway.
Even touching Queen Elizabeth II is a breach of protocol, according to the people who keep up with those things.
″She didn’t say anything,″ Mrs. Frazier, 67, said in a post-hug interview.

I remember this. A British friend at the time told me “she probably doesn’t even hug her own children.”
She was in the Memorial stadium area? Really bad neighborhood. Gutsy. I’ll need to read the rest of the article after dinner.
But, I doubt even 44, Biden or Harris would have gone.
I remember that, it was like the doorbell rang, Mrs. Frazier opened the door and there was the Queen, and she hugged her.
I hope she never had to meet Leo Buscaglia.
What is Hussein’s excuse for pawing Her Majesty?
Doesn’t the White House have a protocol officer?
nopardons - No Huggy protocol Moochie Ping!
How stupid of some/most Brits to even think this.
The monarch IS NOT HOLY.
I’m not a royal watcher at all, but I love how the Queen just rolled with it in this video and leaned into the hug. She could have just stiffened up like an old board at this innocent breach of protocol, but kept it classy and human.
It's not a question of "holiness" but of decorum-- a sense of order and fittingness and a time and a place for everything. It's something the office of the monarchy and other institutions like the military, etc., are built upon, even since the early years of our Republic. That's why we salute the flag and treat it with respect, for example. It's something we've lost a sense of and our culture is the poorer for it.
Yes, but, some of that ‘decorum’ is BS.
That no one can touch the monarch is similar to no one can enter GOD’s presence (which is absolute truth), only stupider and thousands of order of magnitude more wrong.
I remember a year later she showed up at Buckingham palace “ to visit my friend the Queen “ ( quite an accomplishment for someone on welfare) and was surprised when told the Queen wasn’t there.
I remember. Funny stuff.
Thank you for posting the video!
The other thing I remember is the Queen coming for a visit during the Bicentennial, and the Fords had Captain & Tenille, who played “Muskrat Love.”
I was watching the BBC when that happened. The Brits were pissed. When his motorcade went through a section of a town, they were throwing cabbages at his limo and giving him the finger telling him to go home. I turned on CNN . Not one report of that. They were running a segment on how they loved him over there.
I want that famous potato salad recipe.
During the Formula One PreRace Show there were some Drivers recalling moments with Queen Elizabeth. Sir Jackie Stewart had a good one.
