if a man overthinks the situation, opens a drawer and finds one of those jar opening tools to get the job done, he just made his girl look sort of dumb and helpless.

Better she face reality earlier than later.

FYI: Trickle hot tap water over the lid. The lid expands and becomes easier to open.

Set the jar on the counter. Taking your time, wash your hands with hot soapy water and dry them thoroughly. Then grab the lid.

Yep. Or, if a particularly reluctant lid is encountered, a rubber band stretched around said lid will provide the necessary grip/friction to allow the human opener to emerge victorious.

Slip a butter knife under the lip of the lid and give it a twist until you hear the seal break. Easy

“Trickle hot tap water over the lid. The lid expands and becomes easier to open.”

That’s the one that always works for me.

One whack on the cap with the back of the blade of your least favorite chef knife and it will easily open.

Oil filter wrench.

My wife has trouble with her hands, so I am always opening things for her. If I can’t get it after a minute of tugging, it’s off the the workshop to grab some tools. Once and a while that bugger will be on pretty tight.

She knows she’s stuck with me, so there is no shame.

Smack the edge of the lid on the counter. Works for me every time, including a jar of garlic stuffed olives just this morning.

About twenty-four years ago when I was pushing 50, my new wife seriously slammed her knee cap into the trailer hitch of my SUV. I thought it might be broken and I bodily picked he up in my arms and carried her up the five stairs from the garage into the house. She still occasionally refers to it wistfully.

That’s what I did last night to a jar of drunk pickles.
