If you can get in the right area, with an abundance of shelter, water, and fertile ground, it’s easy to make a go of it. Many of the off-griders do almost everything themselves and just come to town to get clothing from one of the charities.
I saw this the other day. Interesting fella and more power to him. People should be able to live their lives as they see fit and without government interference as long as they obey the 10 commandments.

IMO, it was a mistake for him to become public - you can be pretty sure some government bureaucrat somewhere is plotting ways to make him comply with society’s rules and regulations. They will probably try to condem his house because it doesn’t meet the standards they like - or they will get him for something else.

Well, I live in Appalachia but not 100% off grid. But we do can and make oxtail broth etc etc etc. We go to town once/wk. We are so content here with good like minded neighbors.
Our land is small but supplies all needs incl h2o. I can feel God everywhere here. I walk out and see God everywhere. We give thanks for our blessings every single day.

You’re probably right. About ten years ago I found a single county in the entire lower 48 that had no zoning. The only codes you had to conform were state codes for electric and sewage. The county’s major services included snow removal on county roads and a trash dump. You were responsible for your own trash removal.

We called them bendy trees. When we were kids our playground was “the woods”. We would climb up in the young trees and traverse the woods from one end to the other like monkeys and had a couple of spots where we could even cross the creek via the bendy trees. Went back a few years ago and over 50 years since. Now there’s a paved “greenway” for walking and joggers and fancy bridges across the creek, a neighborhood where there used to not be one encroaching on “the woods”.... and the bendy trees don’t bend so much anymore. Haha! They are huge!

I don’t doubt there could be more. I was only able to find one at that time. I’m pretty sure good places like that don’t advertise. I found that county by looking a number of demographics. First, it needed to be 98+% white, then consistently vote over 80% Republican. It had to have very low local, county and state taxes. It had to be rural, have large acreage available, a moderate four-season climate with enough rain to farm without irrigation or water rights issues. Other things I considered included a lack of non-Christians, non-LDS majority, access to basic healthcare in the county and advanced healthcare within a two hour drive. A small town or two would also be nice.
