Nothing is sacred in Hollywood. Everything they own the rights to is just possible fodder for a remake or re-imagining. While Disney is notorious for this, Paramount is taking its swing at the title for “most unwanted reimagining” with a remake of “It’s A Wonderful Life.”

Paramount, along with “Black-ish” director Kenya Barris, plans on remaking the iconic holiday film for modern audiences by remaking the film with POC actors because that worked out so well for “The Wonder Years” reboot.

Barris mentioned this project, along with a new “Wizard of Oz” film set in Inglewood at the Sundance Film Festival. Variety reported on the comments that were made by Barris as he was taking part in the Variety Studio presented by Audible

I remember when the Marlo Thomas one came out. I sure did not watch it! Marlo Thomas is not somebody I would want in my sphere of associates. It reflects poorly on Peggy Noonan that she hangs around with the likes of Marlo Thomas. Danny indulged his princess a bit much.

Note that Orson Welles played Mr. Potter.

“How about coming up with something original instead of befouling existing IPs?”

It’s Paramount’s IP and Paramount is producing the product.

“So you comment with no reason...I see....”

There’s reasons, your ability to see it is another thing entirely.

I would guess most black people don’t care about this either... They’d rather have original movies with blacks, not a bunch of blackface!

Kenya Barris's family sitcom Blackish had original elements, so I am sure that she has some sense of how to mix old and new in a remake. Whether she and the Hollywood system will work to a good result though is harder to anticipate.

They need a new title. 12 Days of Christmas. Or how about Black Christmas.

If the title said something about IAWL, that'll turn me off immediately. I don't want to watch another lame remake. But if it's a new, original movie, I'm all for it.

I think the American audience had enough of sequels, prequels and remakes. So we're saying "no more".

You have a point, and Hollywood has gone both ways when it comes to remakes, even with the same story about angels and the afterlife. The successful movie Heaven Can Wait (1978), starring Warren Beatty, was a remake of the also successful Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941), starring Robert Montgomery. Notably, the second film used the title of the original 1938 Broadway stage play.

I’m certain that replacing Jimmy Stewart with a lesbian transgender POC, and the evil banker replaced with an AI-generated DJT, and having the last scene be everybody singing the “black national anthem” around a Kwanzaa Tree with ornaments portraying Jim Crow era lynchings, will make it a huge best seller all over America!

I watched it. The wikipedia article about it says it is often word for word the same as the original - which is true.

And, I’m supposed to find some ugly chick attractive. They somehow find a chick with a 44 inch waist and no boobs. How is that even possible?

What really brought it home to me was the 20 year reissue of "Justified" where Timothy Oliphant hooks up with the black female lead....totally mortifying, IMO. Halle Berry and Stacy Dash? Yeah, I could believe that. This other one? No. It is what it is.

I saw it back in the 70s. Looking back I see the wokeness of the movie.

We’ll have a whole young generation that believes Alexander Hamilton was black (from the Caribbean). That is the game plan, folks. In 50-100 years, people will believe that black founded the USA and wrote the Constitution and all the great plays and books. Yep, it’s a plan.
