What Do Cats Think About Us? You May Be Surprised
National Geograhic ^ | 1/28/14 | Christine Dell'Amore

Since cats first got their adorable claws into us about 9,500 years ago, humans have had a love affair with felines.

Today more than 80 million cats reside in U.S. homes, with an estimated three cats for every dog on the planet. (Watch a video about the secret lives of cats.) Yet there's still a lot we don't know about our feline friends—including what they think of their owners.

LOL! We are forever thankful for the Detroit Lion's tradition of playing a losing game against whomever on Thanksgiving, providing an excuse to get away from family politics.

Now pass that Wild Turkey.

Did the cat also recognize that distinctive Mopar starter motor sound?

"I usually woke up with Roscoe or Dobby the dog licking me. "

Licking or tasting?

I’ve lived with cats since I was a kid. Every last one of them sweet & loving. They all have their quirks, same as people.

I’ve told this story before on FR as well as other venues, but one more time:

A friend was going to veterinary school, but took a class in psychology (human, that is). One day the professor came in & spoke directly to the women in the class:

“Ladies, if your boyfriend doesn’t like animals, DUMP him. If he likes dogs, he’s probably okay. If he likes cats, STALK him.”

In other words, cat-loving guys are the best. I was lucky to have a cat-loving guy for 25 years.

I’d rather the crooks in DC had given that 61 billion to animal shelters instead of Ukraine.

It depends on when they're spayed or neutered: if it's early enough they retain more of their kitten like behavior. Plus a few outliers of course. But most cats have the Pauley from Goodfellas attitude: "F--- you. Pay me."

Nice try but the love was obvious. I never saw a cat before Roscoe be so open and sincere. They saw my heart and no, didn’t want to eat it.

Dogs are like you best friend, they want to do what you want to do. Cats will only do what they want to do.

Cats are just welfare recipients. They could easily go out and hunt for food on their own, but we opened the cat food tin and they saw their opportunity to get a free lunch, snag rays on the window sill and act like surly adolescents.

He feeds me. He pets me. He gives me water. He plays with me. He must be a god thought the dog.

There are videos of people who get their dog a cat so the dog won’t have to stay at home alone.

Having had a few, if you get them young (like 8-10 weeks), give them lots of attention and otherwise treat them like a dog, they’ll be pretty dog-like. But quieter and lower maintenance

Dogs are dependent and willing to kiss your arses every chance they get in the hope of low quality minimum rations and an occasional bite of something that isn’t garbage. They have no standards, any crap will do, the more you put them in their place, the more slavishly loyal they are. Think of them as union leaders and welfare recipients.

Cats will accept gifts from their fans if these meet their standards, but they don’t hope for gifts. If they think you are too in incompetent to provide for yourself, they will even provide you with training in how to procure food by bringing back live prey for you to practice on.
If you scratch their back, they will scratch yours. If you fail to pay well for their services they’ll go get something later on their own or go to your competition. Think of them as business executives and independent contractors.

One nice thing about cats, is that you never have to set your alarm clock, they are your alarm clock.

Not sure about the starter. The 225 “ticking” sound got him. I know because he was confused when Black Elk’s wife came in a ‘68 Valiant with a 170 Slant Six that sounded identical.
