I'm a new FR member.

I just registered this morning at Free Republic, and I have a question for you if that's okay. I am a moderate Republican, similar to Chris Shays of Connecticut. I supported all of President Bush's tax cuts and stimilus packages, and I support greater deregulation of businesses, medical malpractice reform, and tort reform, but I am socially liberal. I am pro choice, for gay rights, etc. Am I welcome to post on Free Republic?

"Am I welcome to post on Free Republic?"
I'm curious, why would you even pose such a question? Why not just post and see for yourself? Chances are you would encounter disagreements on most of your positions, however, if you follow the rules relative to atttacking certain segments of society, you would be welcome, but, I suggest you come with a thick skin!
BTW, as far as gay rights are concerned, they have the same Constitutional rights just like everyone else. When you say gay "rights" you are really saying SPECIAL rights for these people. Bottom line, they want acceptance as a "normal" way of life and it ain't going to happen except for "moderate" repubs and dems and liberals.

Prepare to hear it on your pro-choice views.
If you are for preferential treatment for special interest lobbies ( gays, minorities, illegal immigrants, etc.), better put on a fireproof suit.
Welcome to FR.

Yes, you're welcome to Free Republic. Just ignore the inevitable slurs to your character, invocations to shun your sinful lifestyle and repent, and endless circular logic and accusations of dodging/lying/obfuscating in discussions pertaining to your socially liberal perspective. I see it's already started.
You sound like a libertarian, so you're absolutely welcome here. All the better to piss off the rabid anti-libertarians here.

In my experience this is not a totalitarian site. Sure you'll get some severe criticism, but that's healthy. Enjoy.

welcome!
Even though there may be difference of opinions, (and we'll work on that...*Grins*) open debate is one of our most cherished possessions of a free republic.
Aye... welcome, laddie!

I hope you will be welcome here.
IMO, many "socially" liberal positions require taxation and coercion by government agencies and are thus in danger of fueling a trend towards totalitarianism.
But welcome.

Hey Jake,
As a semi-new member (Feb 4) and a member of the Viking Kittties, Welcome to FreeRepublic.
Would you agree to these analogies:
1. Pro-choice = Pro Death...No one who has agreed with Pro-choice actually used this argument to choose life.
2. Gay Rights = Special priviledges over normal citizens who do not use thier sexuality as a crutch.
Just to warn you, these two topics are what we call "Lightning Rods". You will learn what "ZOT" means...

You are welcome but do not expect to find much support for your positions.

This is not the place to promote social agendas, it's a place to comment upon the articles posted. Usually there is a WIDE variety of topics that may or may not interest someone. If you think you have a comment that others would be interested in then feel free to post.
Why not click on any of the articles posted today and see the range of comments.....that will give you an idea of what FR is all about.
BTW, Chris Shays is not one of our favorites here on FR.......he said he believed the President raped Juanita but didn't think that was important enough to vote for conviction..........
All this is just my opinion......

I share many of your views, and had considered myself pro-choice until recent years.
Keep an open mind on the abortion issue. Consider not just the liberty interest of the mother, but the liberty (life) of the fetus.
Start by considering that a viable fetus that would live if delivered (i.e. its mother is not essential to its survival) is a live human being with merely a private and cozy place to stay. Killing the baby a moment before delivery versus a moment after are morallly identical.
Once you get to that point, you can wrestle with pre-viable dependent fetuses that the mother undertook to create (or negligently allowed).
Finally, you can consider if the fetus was created against the mother's will.
And don't forget that opposing Roe v. Wade merely means supporting the right of the citizens of each state to decide democratically what abortion laws to enact.

Welcome. We need more free thinkers. It's a dirty job, but we have to do it. I'm putting you on a ping list of the likeminded.

You are welcome to post, but many people will be quick to point out how wrong your views are. If you handle this criticism by becoming a troll, you'll be gone pretty quickly. Comparing yourself to Shays is not a good idea if you want to have friends here. Above all else, Freepers dislike people who knew that Clinton was scum but supported him anyway because he advanced their pro-abortion, pro-tax, pro-big government, and anti-family agenda. If you start claiming that impeachment was bad and that his acquittal was good, you'll be very unpopular.
