Rudy Giuliani: Right Man. Right Time (editorial)
Red State ^ | May 3, 2007 | Steve Forbes

Posted on 05/03/2007 10:33:31 AM PDT by Clintonfatigued

I think Rudy Giuliani will be a superb president. There are many reasons I support Mayor Giuliani's candidacy – his leadership after September 11th, his turning around of New York City and his fight against crime – but what I most admire is his record of fiscal conservatism.

As Mayor, Rudy Giuliani cut taxes 23 times while turning a $2.3 billion dollar deficit into a $2.9 billion surplus. He saved taxpayers more than $11 billion by controlling the projected growth of city-funded spending, and he created a smaller, more efficient government by cutting the number of full-time city-funded jobs by nearly 20%, excluding cops on the street and teachers in the classroom.

When Americans choose their next president they need a proven leader who can get things done. Rudy Giuliani is that leader. Like I mentioned in a recent op-ed I wrote, Rudy Giuliani is not afraid of trying to do big things. He successfully tackled the welfare mess in New York City, even before the Welfare Reform Act of 1996. By the time he was through, welfare rolls had been cut nearly 60%. It's clear Rudy Giuliani is not afraid to pursue major structural changes, even in the face of the conventional wisdom and an entrenched status quo political establishment.

Moreover, Rudy Giuliani realizes no issue is more important to our nation's security than winning the terrorists war on us. He is the man to keep our country on offense, not defense.

I just read your post, skippy, and it was a personal attack on another freeper. We can say what we want about candidates, but you gotta pipe down when it comes to other freepers.

Who cares if you’ve never had a harsh word for a GOP candidate? This isn’t a GOP website.

That was weird. Mine was gone I was looking right at it. It’s back now. Does that mean I passed up a chance for posting profanity? Look how fast I spiral downwards. ;-)

I like em all.

Let’s see..

Rudy - my #1 pick right now - SOLID Leader - can only be bumped by Fred Thompson

Mitt - outstanding business man - bit of a political novice on the national stage - has the slow creep possibility

McCain - no (I lied) he is unstable and not worthy of POTUS - I do NOT like him at all - but I do admire his life story.

Duncan - nice man - weak personality will kill him - great on border security - solid on defense -

Sam - good man - no chance

Ron Paul - good man - no appeal on the national stage - solid on issues

Tommy - great Governor - not well known - building resume and VP possibilities - admits that himself

Huckabee - Nice man - good Governor - lousy on Gonzales - sick of hearing about his weight

Jim Gilmore - good Governor - no national appeal - lost his office to a dem - that will hurt him -

I see this as Rudy-vs.-Mitt-vs.Fred in the end

I see that coming down to Rudy-vs.-Fred

I think Fred will carry the party majority and could easily win the nomination.

How’s that?

And thank you for asking.

Thank you for posting something of substance rather than more personal attacks.

Yes, the air does seem fresher in Free Republic lately.

You’re a riot.

Taking pleasure at the removal of those who disagree with you is just plain odd. It’s hard to understand.

You really need to widen your community of associates - you might be amazed at what you can learn.

better answer would be that most of them decided that flaming others with opposing views and trying to force liberal dogma down the throats of conservatives on a conservative website is what got them banned.

I don’t take pleasure at the removal of those who disagree with me. You can see that for yourself on that thread.

I do take pleasure at the removal of mean-spirited jerks who show no intent to forward conservatism.

Thanks for your advice. It sounds interesting.

His presidency would be a train wreck worse than Jimmy Carter.

In what way?

I think it would be the end of the GOP. GOP Candidates move to the right during primary season and Demos move to the left; and then when they get the nomination they move to the center. That means rudy would be moving even further leftward.

Once he shuts out the right from participation or enfranchisement, the rift would be complete: no more GOP as we know it, just democrat and democrat lite and maybe a new Conservative party. A similar thing happened to the dominant party several generations ago, and the Whigs were decimated when they moved away from their core conservative values & the republican party came into being.

Personally, I’m of the opinion that a Hillary presidency would not be as big of a threat to conservatives as a Rudy presidency.

Why?

With Hillary, Republicans and conservatives have a common enemy. If Republicans manage to regain control of Congress during a Hildabeast presidency, you can BET that they’ll fight against her liberal agenda.

With Rudy, not only will his left-wing issues obtain support from the liberal Democrats, but Republicans will be less inclined to disagree with him, for fear of being disloyal to the Republican Party. And where will this leave the GOP's conservative wing? Not in a good place, I'll tell you that much.
