[GA Senate Pro-Tem]Eric Johnson on the Republican field (Fred's the "Reagan Conservative")
Peach Pundit ^ | December 2nd, 2007 | Jason Pye

Posted on 12/02/2007 11:33:45 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

I just got this via e-mail from Senate Pro-Tem Eric Johnson:

Dear Friends;

You know where Rudy stands on the issues even if you disagree. You can’t tell where Mitt stands. Most of the rest of the field are not key players. Only Mike Huckabee has made some moves – primarily because he is good on his feet in the debates. But there is only one true “Reagan conservative” – Fred Thompson. The others are NOT conservatives or say they are now, but their record says otherwise. Please join me in supporting the consistent conservative who can win.

Giuliani is wrong on guns and life. He is clearly not the pro-family candidate. He is questionable on immigration.

Romney has flipped-flopped badly on many issues. Can you trust him?

Huckabee is right on life, but is for amnesty for illegals and raised taxes more than Clinton while Governor of Arkansas.

Fred Thompson is “right” on taxes, immigration, gun rights, and school choice. He is endorsed by the National Right to Life Committee. He has even proposed a way to save Social Security – an issue that others are afraid to address.

If beating Hillary is more important than our principles, then you can vote for who the press believes is the strongest GOP candidate against her – Giuliani. But if you want a candidate who can unite the conservatives and attract independents like Ronald Reagan did, than Fred Thompson is the best person we can nominate. Please join me.

Eric

One by one the pieces on the chess board fall into place.

I love it when a plan comes together...

The NRA endorsement would be the death certificate for Rudy McRombee.

“The NRA endorsement would be the death certificate for Rudy McRombee.”

Do you see that happening?

YO! YOU FOLKS IN IOWA! OPEN YOU EYES BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!

If Iowans want to be relevant to this election, they will open there eyes to the con-job Huckelberry is pulling on them. There is a great deal of evidence Huckelberry is the candidate of choice for the MSM because they know that once the nominee...they can tear him apart at the seams for his liberal social policies and false claims as to his policies on taxes and illegal immigration. New Hampshire is also going be irrelevant if they choose McCain or Romney. The rest of America has made their decision on these two men. Look at the national polls.

Please take the time necessary to find the truth.

There is only one true “Reagan Conservative” – FRED Thompson. RUSH can see, why can’t you?

I hope it does not happen too soon....

I really want to see Huck, Rudy and Mitt duke it out, trying to out Conservative each other...

First it will be a blast to watch, and secondly it will give Fred a bunch of ammo for the real showdown after the first of the year.

If they do, and they have offered the possibility, which would be a first for a primary race, it will be Thompson.

I did my best at church today to sell Fred Thompson.

I had a couple of our staunch pro-lifers talking about Huckabee. Even with the NRTL endorsement, they had no interest in Fred Thompson. These are the strong social conservatives. She teaches abstinence education, they both serve with our carenet pregnancy centers.

I explained that they should look into Huckabee, that I thought of him as someone who wants government to meddle in our affairs.

They would even consider Romney, but I think Fred’s a tough sell.

Every week I go through this with another social conservative.

I don’t know what the plan is, but it better be a good one. Other comments were along the lines of “Fred didn’t impress me in the debate”, and “Fred just looks really old”.

Just remind them that he's the conservative, serious 'grown up' we'll need in the White House over the next few years.

The reason I ask is this recent post of yours:

Just to be up-to-date, I said that in January.

It seems clear now Romney couldn’t win in Mass., he’s too conservative. Anyway, I’m supporting him for President now, at least he’s my first choice.

This brings back memories, it took a long time for me to decide to support him.

I’m supporting Mitt Romney. I’m speaking well of every candidate we have whenever I can.

Part of my selection criteria is ability to beat Rudy Giuliani in the primary. There are three candidates I would support over Rudy, in addition to Duncan Hunter.

If Fred had passed Rudy in the polls, I’d probably be supporting him first. There are things I like better about Romney, and things I like better about Thompson.

I kept from picking a candidate as long as I thought I could, hoping someone would come along that was the clear choice and for whom my additional help could possibly make a difference.

Then I chose Mitt Romney. But if Fred Thompson wins the nomination, I’ll be happy.

As to the general election, I simply don’t have a clue as to whether Mitt or Fred would be a better candidate. But I do know that there are few people I talk to that aren’t actually active in politics who great Fred with enthusiasm.

For whatever reason, he’s about as exciting as Bob Dole, at least to the people I’m talking about. Huckabee excites them. Romney is acceptable to them. McCain often gets positive reviews. Thompson — Old, tired, and the latest, “grumpy”.

I’ve seen others say that’s “presidential”. Unfortunately, at this time I don’t see a lot of regular voters who characterize that as “presidential” . And unfortunately, We don’t get to pick the president,it’s the 60+ million average voters who the victor will need in November of 2008.
