Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, a co-chair of the 2008 Democratic National Convention, announced the themes of the convention today on a conference call with members of the media.
Sebelius said the overall theme of the Democratic National Convention is "America's Town Hall" and each night, a different keynote speaker would lead the discussion with delegates, elected officials and people from across America who never have had a chance to participate in a convention before.
"This will be an incredibly exciting and innovative convention," Gov. Sebelius said. "One like we've never seen before."
Each night of the convention will carry a different theme.
On Monday night, the theme will be "One Nation" and will focus on Barack Obama as a new leader who is ready to serve as President. Tuesday night's theme will be "Renewing America’s Promise" and will feature Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D - New York) in a discussion on the nation's economic challenges and issues. Wednesday night is veterans' night or "Securing America’s Future" night where the vice presidential nominee will deliver his/her acceptance speech. And finally, Thursday night's theme is "Change You Can Believe In" and will have Barack Obama formally accepting the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.
"The 2008 Convention is about ensuring that those peoples’ voices are heard and their call for change is heeded," said Kansas Governor and Convention Co-Chair Kathleen Sebelius. "From Monday through Thursday, our Convention program will highlight the people of this country who want positive change and who believe Barack Obama is the leader who will listen to their concerns and get our country moving in the right direction again."
As part of the Democratic Convention's "America's Town Hall" theme, convention organizers announced that Americans from across the country would have the opportunity to have their questions answered live from the convention floor.
Starting today, text and video questions can be submitted online at www.DemConvention.com/townhall through Wednesday, August 27, though participants are encouraged to submit their questions as early as possible. A variety of questions will be answered live from the Convention floor in front of thousands of delegates in the Convention hall, millions of Americans watching the Convention at home on television and millions more watching online. In addition, elected leaders and policy experts will also answer questions online during Convention week at www.DemConvention.com.
In addition to submitting questions online, Americans in eight cities across the country, including Atlanta, will have the opportunity to record their questions and individual stories in person at a series of "open calls" starting Wednesday, August 13.
The exact times and locations of those tapings will be posted to www.DemConvention.com/townhall as they are scheduled.
If Obama were to pick Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius it would make my day. I watched her on CSPAN about three weeks ago speaking at a Democratic Party function - and it was ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz - truly narcoleptic!

I was just thinking that - can’t debate with McPain without a telepromoter but he’ll do this. It just goes to show how shallow this guy is. All he has to do is use empty rhetoric about “change” and the base will love it.

A real town hall involves questions from anyone.
This is going to be a tightly scripted exposition.
Funny how often the left renames something that’s the opposite of what it really is.
Kerry, the anti-war activist, based his campaign on his actions in combat as a war hero.
The party’s name- Democrat- gives one the impression that it’s for the people, rather than a group of lefty rich elites.
And the habit of accusing their enemies of what they are doing- Kerry, again, with his against-the-rules Palm during a debate caused MSM to go ballistic over a supposed radio rig worn by Bush.

Democrat - (n) - A political party of rich, self-absorbed elitists who use their power to steal, through taxes, the earnings of middle and upper class Americans and then redistribute those stolen funds in a manner which will maximize the number of votes they can obtain from an underclass which they falsely claim to represent.
John McCain should offer to come to the Democratic convention and answer questions with Barack at “America’s Town Hall”.
It should tell America something that the message of the convention is that Obama is “ready to serve as President”.
When is the last time that a candidate was so unprepared for the job that the party felt like it had to spend the entire convention trying to trick people into thinking the candidate was ready for the job?

John Effin Kerry, 2004. AlGore, 2000. Clinton, Carter, McGovern, Johnson, etc. Pretty much every democrat convention is nothing but a marketing pep-rally for their "chosen" candidate.
