Big difference. In 1996 the Clinton media was out there screaming day in and day out how Clinton had single handedly turned the economy around. The economy was in fact improving in 1996 and a lot of voters said “Well let not rock the boat now that things are getting better.
In 2012 there is nothing for the media to point to and claim Obama is making things better. Across the board Americans are worse off after 4 years of Obama economics.
That is why they spend all day every day pushing the Romney attacks. They absolutely have to keep the focus off Obama’s epic failure as President. All that is left for the Obama propaganda machine is to try and distract and divert the people off the facts.

One other thing, remember Perot was a spoiler for Clinton in 1996
No third party candidate in this election is coming anywhere near pulling the sort of votes Perot did.

There was a report several days ago that the ministers of Black churches are telling their congregations to sit this one out, and a lot of the youth vote has lost their enthusiasm for the won, since they have seen the job market.
If these hold true Romney along with the Bradley effect we could see a landslide.

In 1980 I swallowed the CW and expected a long night. We invited both liberal and conservative friends over for a watch party. By the time I got home with the snacks to get started it was all over. The party didn’t last long, but boy did I have a good time!

Point conceded on Perot (may he rot in...oh, he’s not dead yet), but Ron effing Paul could cost Romney NV, which he desperately needs.

remember Perot was a spoiler for Clinton in 1996 That was in '92 Bush I defeat, not Dole.
I knew then that any Republican would have beaten BJ after his scandals, EXCEPT Dole.

Clinton was popular in 1994 and the economy was ‘rockin’ as well. Completely different dynamic than today...

Romney and his advisers have so far screwed up a great opportunity.
All they have to do and need to do is focus on the economy, run ads just on the price of gas from when Obama took office and what it is now.
Yet they have made one mistake after another.
All they needed to do was follow the old Clinton Playbook of 1992, It’s The Damn Economy Stupid, and nothing else.
It’s Romney’s election to lose and he needs to turn it around or he will lose.

I don't agree at all this is very stressful and I will probably be medicated on election day.

I think that they are skewing the polls towards Obama so that his minions do not lose faith in him being rechosen. If the true numbers of Americans who are sick and tired of this fool came out, none of them would show up. I just want a win that is large enough to keep it out of the stinking courts. If it is close, real close, we have another Algore-GW on our hands.

If he is right then all this Dem kabuki theater going on in the polls is all about maximizing post-election turmoil and outrage, and making it difficult for Romney to actually govern.

I wasn't old enough to vote yet in 1980 but I sure was aware of the election. At church camp that summer the counselor had solemnly warned us that if Reagan was elected we would not live to graduate high school. The Sunday before, the pastor had openly endorsed Carter after telling us that Reagan could "postpone the Second Coming indefinitely" by defeating "Gog and Magog" (which in that church were believed to be the USSR and China) before they could invade Israel. Of course, the press was walloping us every day with Reagan=bad, Carter=good rhetoric. But my dad and I were rooting for Reagan. I recall that I was building a model of the U.S.S. Missouri when the newsers unexpectedly called it for Reagan. I don't think it was even 8:00 yet.
The only sad person in the house was my granddad, an old union man who thought every Democrat was JFK (he'd have dropped dead if he'd lived to see Zero; he was an unrepentant segregationist). But he celebrated with us anyway. Those were good times!

Out here in California you don’t see very many Obama bumber stickers, in 2008 they were everywhere.
In California.

I think they are skewing the polls too. If they are willing to fake the unemployment numbers for him then fudging the polls would be no problem. And if the polls are off by as much as the unemployment.....

The very worst thing that could happen to Myth Romney's 2012 Presidential Campaign is that ...
President Barrack Hussein Obama becomes convinced that Myth will LIKELY win in November ...
Why ?
Well ... they don't call Chicago the U.S. headquarters for "gangsta politics" for nothing ...
I guess the FreeRepublic "Myth-Botts" must be amazed at this post ...
I haven't mentioned once that Myth Romney ... from the "Severely Conservative" Mormon Planet Kolob in the Constellation Cancer ...
Myth ... who admires Joseph Smith ... Smith who declared himself the "Second Mohammed" whose mission was to VIOLENTLY DESTROY the American Evangelical Christian Church ...
And for who MOST Southern Baptists are RATIONALIZING their "Spiritual Blasphemy" in supporting Myth ...
by voting for Myth Romney ... a false-bishop of a false-cult-religion (Mormonism) who claims to someday be EQUAL or BETTER than Jesus Christ ...
Shucks !
Well ... nobody's perfect ... of course, my spelling "is" getting better ...
