Poll: GOP voters like Huckabee most, say he's best qualified
The Washington Examiner's Washington Secrets ^ | April 29, 2014 | Paul Bedard

Republicans like former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee the most and consider him the best qualified potential GOP presidential candidate among the major contenders. But, as with the rest, they aren't psyched for him to run, according to a new Economist/YouGov.com survey.

Some 72 percent of Republicans like Huckabee, a Fox host and conservative populist. That beats Sen. Rand Paul, at 66 percent, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at 62 percent, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 60 percent.

And 51 percent of Republicans also view him as qualified to be president, more than the rest again.

But as previous Economist/YouGov.com polls have shown, there is no GOP groundswell of support for Huckabee or the others. Only 34 percent want him to run, slightly behind Paul at 36 percent. By comparison, the group's survey of Hillary Clinton found that 69 percent of Democrats want her to run.

His strength is his honesty, said the survey release. “By more than four to one (65 percent to 15 percent), Republicans say he is more likely to say what he really believes than to try and tell people what they want to hear. More than half – 52 percent – agree that he is more honest than most people in public life.”

A word bubble of the things people said of Huckabee in the survey included “honest,” “intelligent,” and “trustworthy.”

But some of his main selling points--his evangelism and conservative views--could be a drag.

“Huckabee’s religion, considered as a positive by those who like Huckabee, also has a negative side for those who don’t. So does his ideology,” said the survey release.

I think this is just pre-primary name recognition stuff, once the real thing starts tightening up, all this meaningless polling will be revealed as just pre-season filler.

I don’t see these polls showing us the reality that we will be seeing in 2016.

Who are they asking? those eight ladies who attended Bingo Sunday Brunch at the Huckabee Residence? I don’t know of anyone who considers Huck to be on the short list of the final four we will be choosing from. Huckabee seems too tame, too domesticated, must I say it? He seems too neutered to present any sort of challenge to the Dem corruption machine. Ever six to eight months, Huckabee says something foolish, that he usually ends up walking back a few days later. The man has a habit of making unforced errors.

Huckster ? The moron who single-handedly turned Arkansas from a GOP-trending state into a one-party Democrat one, that moron ? The moron who was pimping illegal slave labor to keep Tyson factories manned ?

You are wrong. I disagree with the Talking Points someone has given you on Fox news watchers being Low Info Voters. The reality is quite the opposite. Tea Party voters tend to be more informed than the average voter, and far more informed than the democrat voters, who tend to vote and believe as their Media Masters tell them to vote and believe.

Huckabee is a social conservative and sometimes economic liberal.

He's the perfect fit for southern conservatives.

Don’t let the Media choose our candidate.
From now until the election they will poke us and slap us to see how much we’ll take.
Huckabee is a Progressive RINO and the media knows it.

Just what we need, the NutriSystem primaries featuring the Huckster and ChristieKreme. Romney was a piker when it comes to keeping the base at home if those two get past February in 2016. Of course, they could just be Jeb’s stalking horses...
