KGW poll: Smith's senate lead increases
10/30/2002
By JIM PARKER and VINCE PATTON, KGW Staff
With less than a week until election day, it appears Republican incumbent Sen. Gordon Smith has slightly increased his lead over Democratic opponent Bill Bradbury -- according to a new KGW poll of likely Oregon voters.
Smith currently garners support from 56% of those surveyed, up from 52% just a week ago.
Bradburys support has remained steady during this one-week period at 34%. Only 5% of voters remain undecided.
Constitution Party candidate Lon Mabon garnered 2% of the vote, and Libertarian candidate Dan Fitzgerald had 1%.
The poll conducted for Northwest NewsChannel 8 by Riley Research Associates surveyed 604 likely Oregon voters. It was conducted from Oct. 23 to Oct. 28 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.
While Im not ready to call this race, said pollster Mike Riley, Its going to be one that for most observers is considered a done deal.
Not only has Smiths lead grown by 4% overall since a week ago, hes also showing increases among Democrat crossover voters.
Our latest poll shows 32% of Democrats say they support Smith. Thats up from 27% in our last poll.
Smith also continues to enjoy majority support from both men and women, the poll shows.
Im sure that Bill Bradbury has been disappointed, said KGW political analysts Len Bergstein. But hes been buried by $5 million in advertising. As a result, hes never gotten off the mat.
Money moves your numbers in a U.S. Senate race, he added. And Smith has to feel very happy at this point.

I actually went ahead and voted for Smith in this one. I wanted to cast mine for Fitz but though this one was too important....guess it really wouldn't have mattered.

Thanks for the ping and your vote.
We need to elect a lot of fiscal conservative third party people at the local levels on the west coast to start bailing the west coast out of the tax and spend bankruptcy all 3 states are in the elections the next 4 years. That will send a message to both parties.
However, Da$$hole has be outed from being the Rat Majority leader or this country is in trouble.

If the insane one payer health plan passes here this state will be bankrupt in 5 years, guranteed. And the State will also have a few less subjects to kick around, as I'll be moving my family out.

I posted this on the Oregon page:
This week I called all 99 Republicans in my precinct...it was a rewarding experience !!
Voting is important, some need a little nudge...
You'd be surprised at how many feel that they're the only Republicans in town, especially in places like Eugene... :o)

You have 100 republicans in Eugene?
What a great grass root job, you have done!
To: blackie; EBUCK
Oregon is broke right now. The socialized health care will just make it worse.
Kali is about $30 to 46 billion $'s in debt. We have Rat bond issues for the children all over the state. These bond issues represents another $30 to $40 billion debt.
It is like a giving a person in a bankruptcy court for over charging his credit cards, another credit card good for the same amount that he can't pay now.
To: Grampa Dave
I'm glad Smith is doing well but I'm really depressed thinking about Kulongoski winning and the health plan measure passing. I'm just not in a position financially to move out of state.

The proposed health plan will destroy what is left of Oregon's economy.
Any business with any sense of survival will move to Idaho or Nevada.
Any private business owner who can run his/her business in another state, should run for that other state asap if the stoned voters in Portland vote for this Socialist plan.
To: Tailback
I don't think you will have a choice. There aren't going to be any jobs in a few years.

I haven't voted yet, but since he is so far ahead I'm NOT going to vote for him. His pro-Kosovo, pro-Bosnia, pro-Chechyn, pro-homosexual rights and pro-hate crime agenda drove me far away from this .... I can't think of the right word to describe such a poor thinker.
