I thought the origin came from that old Tom Posten movie from the '60s.

I always thought that ZOT originated with the "Wizard of Id" and became popularized by "B.C."
I think the "Wizard of Id" started back in the '60s. Back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth... ;)

That strip is from
Kevin and Kell, one of the very first webcomics and still coming out daily. Bill Holbrook tends a bit green, but K&K is great - a world of intelligent animals who haven't forgotten that they're animals (i.e., folks get eaten). Highly recommended.

OOOPS !!! Hey, I just clicked into this thread by accident. Sure am hoping that doesn't constitute a genuine Zottable offence. And pleeeeease don't send the Assinine Communist Lucifer Union after me, cuz I'm alread a paraplegic and I wouldn't be able to survive if the ACLU got a court to rule against my use of a wheelchair!!!

Actually, as far as comics go, the "BC" comic strip (by Johnny Hart) was using "Zot" as the sound effect for lightning bolts *long* before 1995. I've got a ton of his book collections in the other room, when I have a few minutes I'll go look up and scan a couple of examples.

I love this little guy. The perfect ZOT.

According to the back of my Underdog DVD:
ZOT
One of the all-time favorite episodes from the series! Underdog has a secret admirer watching him, trouble is she's on another planet!
