For perspective: The Oakland/Berkeley Hills Firestorm of 1991

There are fires currently in Julian (Mountains East of San Diego), Lakeside (base of mountains east of San Diego), Scripps Ranch, North of San diego(HUGE-has closed several freeways), Camp Pendleton (still burning big), Just North of Camp Pendleton in San Clemente one started REAL fast, that was two hours ago and has prolly burned down the houses it was rapidly approaching, Simi Valley-San Fernando Valley fires. Rapidly approaching the freeway north of my place now. I traveled from Chula Vista to the San fernando valley earlier and there are MANY fires to see.

Fire is over the hills into Santee now. Fire clearly visible from my house near Santana HS. I really didn't expect it to make it out here. At least the winds have died down. I have bags packed ready to get my family out...

Do any San Diego Freepers know the status of Miramar Ranch Elementary School? I went there in the 4th Grade, the last year before I moved to Massachusetts, and I fear it may be in trouble. The same goes for Scripps Ranch Library, my old library.

I knew Gray Davis had a scorthced Earth policy for his last few days, but this is ridiculous!

It is a damn shame that unions and the state require that firefighters be hired only under the stricktest conditions with pay at 40-100 thousand dollars because if the split the pay by 1/3 they'd have 33% more firefighters.... hmmm. Alot of people want to be firefighters, except unions.

JULIAN, CA - One firefighter is dead Wednesday and three others injured after the group they were with was overcome by fire. It happened around 1pm in the Winola area. Neighborhoods around Julian suffered significant damage Wednesday, but the Downtown area was saved. The town does remains under threat of fire, however much of the area around it has already burned. More than 200 homes were lost in the Kentwood in the Pines area alone. Flames 300' tall came within 1/4 mile of town, but that was it. Firefighters kept it from spreading into the historic Downtown district.

	The Cedar Fire is now being called the largest fire in California history.
