I have bad news for you. Right now, NBC in Los Angeles is showing helicopter views of the fire directly across the highway from Rim of the World High School. It will probably be burned this morning as the embers cross the highway. It is only 100 yards from the school now....6:26 a.m.

The firefighters are trying to save the school.

Coulter Pines have huge cones, the heaviest in the world, with very nasty spikes on them. They are unforgettable. One of those hitting you from a height of 30' would do serious damage.

The fires were either not reported at all or mentioned for about 4 seconds here in NC. Even I just dismissed the mini-reports as the usual seasonal fires in KA. That is, until I got on FR and found out the truth! Today was the first day I can honestly say the fires are getting medium-sized coverage on NC radio (I have no TV).

new info on KCAL tonight was that the hunter was lost for 12 hours without water or food.

He set a bonfire to get found by a helicopter.

He has been let go and there is the possibility that he was NOT the cause of the fire's spread.
