This is also the place to post contact information, prayers and general discussion.

If you have something that qualifies as BREAKING NEWS or FRONT PAGE NEWS, please post it on a separate thread in that category in order to give it maximum exposure and then post a link to the article/thread here so that it will be included in the next update of links. Also, if you post links to articles from original sources and there is also a thread on FR, please link to the FR thread. The courts are supposedly only supposed to be serving to judge questions that arise under the law. If "concerned citizens" in Florida can get voters to add a no-smoking-in-restaurants amendment to its constitution, then surely something can be done to reform the death mill??? Whether or not it comes in time to save Terri herself. Because as much as we all send her love, Terri is not the first one in this plight and will not be the last.

How can this be? Michael said on LKL that she has never said a word since that night. Surely he wouldn't lie about something like that. < /sarcasm >

I have no idea. I don't know anything about them. I just hope they have some teeth. I don't know what they can do and I know some of the people in Florida don't want this (I wouldn't either) but I think the feds ought to step in. Each one of these homes has an annual survey by the state and the feds monitor the state since medicare $$$ used too. We have actually had them come in behind the state and re-do a survey to make sure the state on their toes. Very stressful.

Yes, that is why I am careful to specify when something is fact, when it is a question, when it is an opinion and when it is pure speculation; at least I try to in my own posts and in my correspondence. And when something new comes up, I seek to confirm it before giving it too much weight.

The law requires a guardian ad litem. But Greer is stalling, waiting for Baird to strike down Terri's Law. Then the guardian ad litem will be out of the picture, and Greer can affirm his admiration for "loving husband" Michael R. Schiavo. Will the people of Pinellas Co. buy this in 2004? Killing Terri (and others earlier, we have learned) means everything to this sinister George W. Greer. Yet, I am sure he cloaks his death decrees in "love" and "compassion."

My Reply: I don't think Judge greer was the judge who appointed the Guardian ad Litum was he? I think that was a different Judge, a judge hearing the Jeb Bush case. The Guardian Ad litum is Jay Wolfson another Stetson University graduate..

Everyone seems so puzzled as to why the courts are "helping" MS kill Terri, but remember when he (MS)said "this is bigger than Terri and me", or something to that effect?
Good chance that if the judge, lawyer and sheriff, all on the hospice board are of one mind- relentless pursuing of their belief in euthanasia, enough to push all they can to work towards that end. And they are only using Michael to do it with. As far as Michael not giving up, it is OBVIOUS that he is hiding something!!!
I tend to think that is it, those in power using that power to push/further their agendas. It is possible the sherriff -turned- lawyer didn't investigate Terri's possible abuse the night it happened for this reason, also the fact that Terri's father, when asked if MS had given him any reason to be suspicious, he ansered "NO" at that time.
The press never mentions the fact that MS worked for McDonald's as a manager-they always say he "managed" a reastaurant, then lived in the parents basement!!!

I just finished reading "Culture of Death" (or death culture?)and forgot the name of his other book, author's name is Smith, Wesley, I think. Opens your eyes as to how big this movement is growing, worldwide, I shudder to think.

Yes, it was Demers who appointed Wolfson.

Then Greer said he would allow the Schindlers to challenge Schiavo as guardian.

Now Greer is waiting for the third judge, Baird, to strike down Terri's law.

That will mean no need for Demers to continue with the guardian ad litem.

It's all a judicial con game!

And Greer can reaffirm his support for the "KIND AND CARING" husband.

They were swiping at each other and it is interesting. Unfurtunatly i cna't get vieo on my computer but the rest of you probably can and can comment on it. ABC must have had cameras there.

Any word on Jay Sekalow's progress in helping this case for the Schindler's or that well-connected politician in DC who got involved by phoning the hospice? We've heard rumors that there are powerful people working in the background
to prevent Terri's murder .. any news about any of that?

After my phone call today to the Court Representative I feel that the only real chance Terri has is with the Advocacy Group. The article is posted in this thread up earlier. They are the ONLY ones doing any investigating on Terri's behalf. The good news is they are FEDERALLY responsible so this might be the one and only shot to get this out of Florida and into the Federal Government. American's with Disabilities Act and all that.

SweetLiberty I hope you show that post in your important links becasue IMHO it is Terri's anly real chance.

If you are going to say any prayers pray for those people becaue they are the best shot.

Terri is not the first one in this plight and will not be the last.

I hope that all reading this thread will remember this. I do believe that God has allowed Terri's case to be brought into the public eye for a purpose. His ultimate will may be to take her to her heavenly rest soon (it is my understanding that she was a Christian), but His will will have been served by shocking some people to attention. He's got my attention! May laws be rescinded and/or enacted that will prevent this type of case in the future. May life always be defended over government-sanctioned death.

I suppose Greer would state that it's not fair to those litigating in Baird's court if he scheduled litigation for the same parties in his court at the same time, because they can't be in both places. However if there is a prolonged hiatus (such as waiting for a US Supreme Court decision) there should be no reason Greer can't let things proceed before his own court.

YES! And something better than Terri's Law is needed in any case, even if by some minor miracle the kangaroos of the sunshine state give it a pass this time. Terri's Law is predicated in part upon someone in the family disputing the starvation death decree. What about the next person who isn't that lucky? At the very least, there should be a new amendment which "notwithstanding any prior provision in the Florida constitution" (or some such bulletproofing) raises the bar, for legally determining a patient's wishes not to live, beyond mere hearsay and mere casual comments.

CLEARWATER - A judge has given Terri Schiavo's parents the green light to move forward with their effort to remove Michael Schiavo as guardian of their daughter, but a heated exchange in court was more dramatic than any legal developments Wednesday.

The attorney for Terri's parents, the Schindlers, asked Judge George Greer to step down from the case, claiming he is too personally involved.

"I feel that if Terri called you from the hospice, you would try to talk her into giving up and dying. I feel that you are that committed to her death, judge," Pat Anderson stated.

The Schindlers' attorney has asked the judge to remove himself from the case three times in the last three years. Wednesday, he made it clear that he was getting fed up with the requests.

An acrimonious argument ensued when Anderson accused Judge Greer of speaking inappropriately about the case.

"Judge, you don't have to take the calls and you sure don't have to discuss the merits," Anderson continued.

"I think I even got an email from you, Ms. Anderson," Judge Greer shot back, slapping his hands on the bench.

In the end, Judge Greer gave Michael Schiavo 10 days to defend his position as Terri's legal guardian, though the guardianship issue will have no impact on Schiavo's fight to prove the new law that restarted Terri's feedings is unconstitutional.

The governor's attorneys moved to defend the new law late Wednesday, filing a request to dismiss the suit filed by Michael Schiavo over the law.

"Given the life and death nature of the issues before the court, Mr. Schiavo's attorneys should not be allowed to create a rush to judgment by circumventing standard legal practice. We are asking the court to ensure Mr. Schiavo's attorneys abide by the same rules of procedure and evidence required in all Florida courts," Gov. Jeb Bush said in a written statement.

The Schindlers, meanwhile, were not in court Wednesday; they were out of town to appear on a national talk show later this week.

According to this report, Schiavo had 10 days to defend himself against the allegations. That's the first I heard of any time limit on MS. They sure make it sound like Greer expected to hear something from both sides in a reasonable amount of time. Now we also are hearing that Greer isn't setting any date for this. It wouldn't surprise me for ABC to have it wrong. I think very little of their journalistic credibility as it is. But surely something pointed them in the direction of 10 days. I wonder what's really going on.

If you can get a chance to listen & watch the video, it shows some of the discourse going on between Anderson & Greer. I hope that Greer isn't ruling the way he consistently does because he doesn't seem to care for Ms. Anderson. He tells her point blank to stick with true statements. (Georgie, if the truth hurts, then stop bucking it so much!).

Can someone explain this to me?

MS said over and over, and on national tv, that it wasn't until his mother's death in July 1997 that he "realized his need to fulfill Terri's wish", right? MS's mother wasn't dead yet when Bushnell's letter to Judge Shames on May 6, 1997. How can he get away telling this stuff??
