Clinton's Ties to Burkle Include Funds in Offshore Tax Haven-- this is all a set-up for the “comeback kidette” story.

The Would-Be Commandress In Chief

"Remember that movie Independence Day, where invaders were coming from outer space and the whole world was united against the invasion? Why can't we be united on behalf of our planet? And that's what I want to do, to get more and more people to understand that and to be involved to protect our environment."
"I've been to cattle barns before and sales before, in Arkansas, but I've never felt like I was the one that was being bid on," Clinton told a crowd in western Iowa. "I know you're going to inspect me. You can look inside my mouth if you want. I hope by the end of my time with you I can make the case for my candidacy and to ask you to consider caucusing for me."
"I will be a good president for dogs, I promise!"; she said, as the puppy jumped all over her slacks. "I love gingerbread houses!" she told a teacher who said she had been making them with her students that day.
None of the preceding is satire.

Cackles & Evasions

Why Did the Wheels Come off Hillary's Campaign? (she is basically an unattractive candidate)
The first woman to run for president

She is NOT the first woman to run for president. Women have been running since the 1800's.

* 1964 is the first year in which any woman had her name on a ballot as a candidate for President. (In the 19th century, voters cast tickets prepared by the parties rather than marked ballots prepared by the state).

* Sen. Margaret Chase Smith (ME) was the first and also the most successful woman to run for the Republican nomination for President. In the 1964 primaries, she received over 83,000 votes from at least six states and at the convention she got 22 delegate votes from 4 states. Sen. Margaret Chase Smith was only on three Republican primary ballots in 1964, though she also received some write-in votes from other states.

* Rep. Shirley Chisholm, (NY) was the most successful, and almost the first, woman to run for the Democratic nomination. (Another woman ran in the 1964 Indiana Democratic primary). She was the first African-American to run for the Democratic nomination but not the first African-American to run for President. She received over 400,000 votes in 14 primaries, and 151.95 delegate votes from 26 states at the 1972 Democratic Convention.

* Charlene Mitchell was the first African-American to run for President, at the head of the 1968 Communist Party ticket. She received 1,075 votes from four states. She was also the first woman to have her name on the general election (i.e. November) ballot.

* The only other woman to campaign in the Democratic primaries who received delegate votes at the convention was Ellen McCormack, who got 27 delegate votes from 5 states in 1976.

* A few women who did not run in the primaries for President have also received a few delegate votes at the Democratic Convention. Barbara Jordan, 1 in 1976; Koryne Horbal, 5 in 1980; Martha Kirkland, 1 in 1984; Patricia Schroeder, 8 in 1992.

* Pat Schroeder raised $872,462 in anticipation of her 1988 campaign -- more money than any other potential female candidate for the Democratic nomination. She dropped out after three months and her name was not on the ballot in any of the primaries.

* Carol Mosely Braun raised $627,869 for her 2004 campaign -- more money than any other woman whose name was on a Democratic primary ballot. Although she dropped out after the first primary, she received 103,205 votes from 13 states. (Chisholm estimated that she raised about $300,000, but in 1972 candidates weren't required to keep good records and make reports).

* Elizabeth Dole raised over five million dollars while exploring a race for the 2000 Republican nomination. She was the most successful fundraiser of all the female candidates, but since she dropped out early, her name was not on any ballot.

* Lenora Fulani was the most successful female minor party candidate. Her name was on the ballot in 51 jurisdictions in 1988 and 48 in 1992. No other woman running for President, whether in a primary or a general election, has had her name on as many different ballots.

* At least four African-American women have had their names on a Democratic Presidential primary ballot: Shirley Chisholm in 1972; Lenora Fulani in 1992; Mildred Glover and Carol Mosely Braun in 2004. (There may be more since it is hard to determine the race of all 22)

* One Asian-American woman has had her name on a Democratic Presidential primary ballot: Patsy Mink in 1972.

* At least one African-American woman has had her name on a Republican Presidential primary ballot: Isabell Masters in 1988, 1992, and 1996. (There may be more).

* At least five African-American women have had their names on the general election ballot for President: Charlene Mitchell, Communist Party, 1968; Margaret Wright, People's Party, 1976; Lenora Fulani, New Alliance Party, 1988 and 1992; Isabell Masters, Looking Back Party, 1992 and 1996; Monica Moorehead, Workers World Party, 1996 and 2000. (There may be more)

* Isabell Masters has had her name on a ballot for President in more years than any other woman: Republican primary in 1988, 1992 and 1996; Looking Back Party in 1992 and 1996.

* Caroline Killeen has had her name on a Democratic primary ballot in more years than any other woman. She was on the New Hampshire Democratic Party primary ballot in 1992, 1996, and 2004.

* Mary Jane Rachner is the only woman to have her name on a Republican primary ballot in one year (1988) and a Democratic primary ballot in another (1992).

* The woman on the most Republican Party primary ballots was Tennie Rogers, who was on nine state ballots in 1992. Sen. Margaret Chase Smith was only on three Republican primary ballots in 1964, though she also received some write-in votes. She got ten times more votes than Rogers.

* The woman whose name was on the most Democratic Party primary ballots was Ellen McCormack -- 18 state ballots in 1976. The second most successful was Shirley Chisholm (who got twice the votes).

* Ellen McCormack was the only woman seeking a major party nomination to receive federal matching funds. She was one of three women in four presidential cycles to receive federal matching funds for seeking the nomination of their party. They other two were: Sonia Johnson for the Citizens Party nomination in 1984; Lenora Fulani, for the New Alliance Party nomination in 1988 and 1992.

Operation Rescue Hillary

December 17, 2007 09:27 AM by Michelle Malkin

Ah, the whiff of desperation in morning. Can you smell it? It’s Hillary Clinton’s new perfume. She’s on a whirlwind media tour this morning to rescue her crumbling campaign. “You can look inside her mouth, if you want.” Eww.

However flabbergastingly stupid her missteps have been, though, it would be a mistake to count her out. (Case in point: See The Real Oprah Effect.) She may be as transparent as glass to most of us, but she does have legions of blind followers, supporters, and fence-sitters who will be swayed by maudlin efforts like the new likeability project and “The Hillary I Know” website:

Make sure to check out that website. It’s an irresistible invitation for spoofers and past victims of the Clintons’ Reign of Terror and Error to provide their own testimonies of the Hillary They Knew.

The NLPC knew Hillary. Here’s what they knew.

Billy Dale knew Hillary. Here’s what he knew.

Warm, likeable Hillary? Don’t make me cackle like she did on Fox and Friends this morning: Jim Hoft takes a closer look at Hillary’s not-so-soft side.

Filled with F-bombs.

Granted, you might expect Michelle Malkin to provide a timely reminder of the Hillary whom Peter Paul and Billy Dale know.  But check Kyle E. Moore at Comments From Left Field:   he notes that Clinton’s negatives have only risen since this campaign despite its best efforts to counteract this

Hillary, 'Pumped,' Tries a New Look in Iowa

Hillary’s Latest Charm Offensive - Photos

December 17th, 2007

Perhaps you have heard about Hillary’s latest determination to be liked — or else.

Of course the wire services are doing their part:

What media bias?

Still, as the saying goes, the secret of success is sincerity. If you can fake that, you’ve got it made.

The trouble is Hillary can’t even fake it.

Clintons About To Get A Taste Of Their Own Medicine

A bad autumn looks to turn into a catastrophic winter for Hillary Clinton. After attempting to distract people from her stumbling campaign by launching a series of attacks on Barack Obama -- and having them backfire -- Hillary promised to take the high road in the future. That promise may have come too late for the pundit class, which has begun to question whether the Clintons intended to use racial stereotypes to frighten Democrats away from Obama:...Ruben Navarette nails this one. Had a Republican raised the spectre of drug dealing, Democrats would have screamed "racial politics" faster than anyone could say Lee Atwater. Sticking It To America

Published by Gaius under Politics, Taxes

Steny Hoyer just made a rather shocking admission. The Democrats may not be able to patch the Alternative Minimum Tax, effectively sentencing 20 million American taxpayers to an average $2,000 fine of additional taxes. The fact that most of those who will get clobbered by this come from the bluest of blue states appears to be lost on the lunatics running the asylum. Any wonder why America thinks Congress is useless8 responses so far

Bad News For Clinton

Published by Gaius under Politics

These polling results indicate why camp Clinton launched the sudden charm offensive. Democratic voters are worried about nominating the most electable candidate - and they don't appear to think that candidate happens to be Hillary Clinton.

Many Voters Still Not Buying Hillary

Hillary Clinton has always had an electability problem. In the current campaign cycle, she has presented herself to a national audience for the first time as candidate rather than wife. Recent headlines suggest that she is working at making herself more likable. So far, though, it appears that many voters are able to resist Hillary's appeal:

Hillary, the Great and Terrible [Karl]

The new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll that has the blogosphere abuzz finds that Democratic voters increasingly are focused on nominating the most electable presidential candidate.

While that poll finds Sen. Hillary Clinton rebounding from a modest slump and increasing her lead over her rivals, the new Washington Times-Rasmussen Reports poll finds that she tops the list of who Americans would most want to keep out of the White House.  Clinton scored 40% — more than twice the total of the No. 2 “anti” pick, Republican Rudy Giuliani.  This is not as bad for Clinton as similar poll results earlier this year, though the 17% of Dems who would vote against her in the new poll is eerily similar to the 20% in the prior Harris poll and should be unsettling to the Clinton campaign (not to mention the 42 percent of third-party or independent voters who feel that way).

Even the USA TODAY/Gallup Poll contains some bad news for Clinton on this front.  Obama currently matches up better against GOP rivals, which should influence those Dems who prize electability.

Clinton also led the field as the most likely prospect to be a “great” president and as the most likely to be a “terrible” president.  Hillary, the Great and Terrible.  Sounds like Oz.  Or He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

"We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

"We must stop thinking of the individual and start thinking about what is best for society.”

"It's time for a new beginning, for an end to government of the few, by the few, for the few, and to replace it with shared responsibility for shared prosperity."

"We can't just let business as usual go on, and that means something has to be taken away from some people."

"We have to build a political consensus and that requires people to give up a little bit of their own turf in order to create this common ground."

"I certainly think the free market has failed."

"I think it's time to send a clear message to what has become the most profitable sector [oil] in the entire economy, that they are being watched."

"What I want to do is take those profits and apply them to alternative energy."

Hillary Clinton said them all.

Hillary Clinton’s ‘Condom’ Christmas Tree

December 19th, 2007

Most people have heard the story of the Clintons’ “x-rated” tree decorations during the Christmas of 1994.

The story originated primarily from Gary Aldrich’s book, Unlimited Access. In some ways it is better and some ways worse than it is commonly remembered.

If you have not had a chance to read Mr. Aldrich’s book, or if you have forgotten the details, here are some of the more relevant excerpts from pp 101-6:

“Good Morning, Mrs. President”

… Just before Decorating Saturday, I ran into some of my old team members from the previous Christmas…

“You aren’t missing anything. You wouldn’t believe what they’re calling ‘Christmas decorations’ this year. It’s unbelievable. In fact, it’s downright disgraceful. There’s this one ornament, a clear lucite block, and inside are some old computer parts, and that’s a Christmas ornament, see?”

My other former team member chimed in, “Yeah, it’s true, and there’s all of this carved dark wood, not resembling much of anything—just sticks and twigs tied together. They look like fertility gods or something. We can’t tell.”

“Yeah, and there are pots, and carvings, some that look kind of obscene, and boxes, but nowhere can we find anything that resembles Christmas. Nowhere.”

“And have you seen Bertha?”

Yes, I had seen Bertha—big, ebony Bertha. Bertha was a statue that Hillary had selected to be placed along the public tour line. About eleven other examples of modern art were in the Jackie Kennedy Garden (the companion garden to the Rose Garden). Bertha was twice life-size and was very naked. In addition, Bertha had enormous buttocks, far out of proportion to the rest of her body.

That is why the permanent White House staff named her Bertha, which was short for “Bertha’s Big Butt.” This is what the first lady considered appropriate for the eyes of the thousands and thousands of visitors who daily toured the White House—Bertha’s Big Butt…

Fast forward to one year later. Again I was asked to help decorate White House. I didn’t get it. There wasn’t much to do. The Clintons didn’t like tinsel—not one tree had any tinsel—nor was there any snow, nor did there seem to be much for decorators to do…

Perhaps Hillary didn’t trust us. She had, in fact, “hired” some volunteers of her own. While in New York, Hillary had seen an office she thought was well-decorated. She ordered the staff to find the decorators and bring them down.

The permanent White House staff wasn’t wild about this idea, but, after all, it was the first lady’s show, and everyone understood that it would be done the way Hillary Clinton wanted it done…

The GSA, the Park Service, and the Residence maintenance staff had erected all the trees. Some staff were on high ladders, hanging evergreen garlands. We gathered around folding tables to unpack the ornament boxes.

It took about ten seconds to get the first reaction. “What in the world?”

Then another. “What the hell?”

Then another. “Look at this thing! What is it?”

“Hillary’s ornaments is what!”

From one end of the hall to the other, about forty people were picking up these “things,” staring at them, turning them around, trying to figure them out or stifle their embarrassed laughter. I turned to one of my team members. “What are these things?”

“I heard the theme is The Twelve Days of Christmas, as interpreted by art students from around the country. Hillary sent a letter out just two months ago, really late actually, asking budding artists to send in an interpretation of The Twelve Days of Christmas, and this is what they came up with.”

I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. “This stuff is just childish garbage! We can’t hang this stuff on any White House Christmas tree! This is a bad joke.”

“Gary, the orders from the First Lady’s Office are to hang these. It’s what she wants, so we have to hang them. Anyway, many of them are from ‘blue ribbon’ art schools, as designated by the Secretary of Education. The whole administration has a stake in this.”

“Well, if this is blue ribbon, then we’re in serious trouble, educationally.” I pulled out one ornament that was five real onion rings (five golden rings) glued to a white styrofoam tray, with a hook attached to the back so it could be hung. But where? Maybe in Clinton’s bedroom so he could rip off a midnight snack?

I was disgusted, but some of it was actually pretty funny.

“Gary, come here, look at this!” It was a mobile of twelve lords a-leaping. They were leaping all right. The ornament consisted of tiny clay male figurines. Each was naked and had a large erection. My friend said, “Whoops!” and he dropped it on the floor. Then, “Oh, no,” as he stomped on it. He joked, “Man, I hope I don’t get in trouble with Hillary for that!”

Some of the ornaments were silly and some were dangerous, like the crack pipes hung on a string. We couldn’t figure out what crack pipes had to do with Christmas no matter how hard we tried, so threw them back in the box. Some ornaments were constructed of various drug paraphernalia, like syringes, heroin spoons, or roach clips, which are colorful devices sometimes adorned with bird feather and used to hold marijuana joints.

Two turtle doves became two figurines that had the shells of turtles but the heads of birds; there were many of these. Four calling birds were—you guessed it—birds with a telephone, and there were at two miniature phone booths with four birds inside using the telephone. There was a partridge in a pear, without the tree—a clay pear with a partridge head sticking out of it. Three French hens were French kissing in a menage a trois. So many of the ornaments didn’t celebrate Christmas as much at they celebrated sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Several of the birds had dark glasses and were blowing saxophones…

I went over to one of the tables I hadn’t looked at yet. What’s this? Of course. Two turtle doves, but they didn’t have shells this time—they were joined together in an act of bird fornication.

I picked up another ornament that was supposed to illustrate five golden rings. One of the male florist volunteers grabbed my arm and laughed and laughed…

I was holding were sex toys known as “cock rings”—and they had nothing to do with chickens.

Another mystery ornament was the gingerbread man. How did he fit into The Twelve Days of Christmas? Then I got it. There were five small, gold rings I hadn’t seen at first: one in his ear, one in his nose, one through his nipple, one through his belly button, and, of course, the ever-popular cock ring.

I couldn’t believe the disrespect that these ornaments represented. Many of the artists invited to make and send something to hang on the tree must have had nothing but disgust, hatred, and disrespect for the White House and the citizens of this country, a disgust obviously encouraged by the first lady in the name of artistic freedom…

Here was another five golden rings ornament—five gold-wrapped condoms. I threw it in the trash. There were other condom ornaments, some still in the wrapper, some not. Two sets had been “blown” into balloons and tied to small trees. I wasn’t sure what the connection was to The Twelve Days of Christmas. Condoms in a pear tree? …

Hillary’s social secretary, Ann Stock, came down, carefully looked at the tree and its decorations and pronounced it “perfect” and “delightful.”

Lovely, no?

So “uplifting.”

Edwards 'Love Child' Story a Christmas Present from Hillary?

Rush Limbaugh: Edwards 'love child' report a plant?

THIS WILL BE A BIGGER QUESTION in the general election:

The National Archives is withholding from the public about 2,600 pages of records at President Clinton's direction, despite a public assurance by one of his top aides last month that Mr. Clinton "has not blocked the release of a single document."

Perhaps someone can smuggle out the crucial documents in his/her socks. Apparently, security at the Archives is less than airtight.

Hillary!'s Christmas Ad - Ugh! (video on Riehl Worl)--She reminds me of Martha Stewart...Until now, I was still convinced that Her Ladyship was an iron lock for the nomination. But, this ad is so ghastly, in such poor taste, and so radically left wing (right down to the “Happy Holidays”) that I now wonder about her sanity.

Hillary Clinton support slips in California--a “slip”? That would be catastrophic for any other non-anointed candidate.

Media Lowlights of 2007

The Media Research Center has announced its "Notable Quotables of 2007," recognizing the year's worst reporting in a number of categories. The grand prize winner, which we commented on here, was McClatchey's story: "As Violence Falls in Iraq, Cemetery Workers Feel the Pinch."

There are lots of entertaining videos, featuring the year's most over-the-top left-wing commentary.

It's fun to browse some of the worst news coverage of the year, but it does make you wonder whether the mainstream media are getting even worse. There certainly isn't any sign of improvement.

Shocker: Hillary Faked A Tender Moment

Clinton gets surprise visit from Sunday school teacher

December 18, 2007

DONNELLSON, Iowa (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton got a surprise visit from her past today.

At a stop in Donnellson, someone asked about her faith. Clinton said she’s a practicing Methodist.

Someone then pointed out that Clinton’s childhood Sunday school teacher was in the audience.

Clinton rushed over to hug her teacher, Rosalie Bentzinger.

Bentzinger gave Clinton a picture of the New York senator’s confirmation class from 1959.

Campaign aides say they were unaware that Bentzinger, who was with a friend of Clinton’s, was in the crowd.

Someone had to “point her out”? Hillary couldn’t remember her teacher from having seen her again just a few months ago?

The Clinton campaign is whining like mad about how unfair all the press coverage of Hillary is. There is just something hysterically funny about all this. Of all people to complain about the media, Hillary is about the least credible person I can think of.

DES MOINES, Dec. 18 — After weeks of bad news, Hillary Clinton and her strategists hoped that winning the endorsement of Iowa's largest newspaper last weekend might produce a modest bump in their media coverage.

But on Sunday morning, they awoke to upbeat headlines about their chief Democratic rival: "Obama Showing New Confidence With Iowa Sprint," said the New York Times. "Obama Is Hitting His Stride in Iowa," said the Los Angeles Times. And on Monday, Clinton aides were so upset about a contentious "Today" show interview that one complained to the show's producer.

Clinton's senior advisers have grown convinced that the media deck is stacked against them, that their candidate is drawing far harsher scrutiny than Barack Obama. And at least some journalists agree.

"She's just held to a different standard in every respect," says Mark Halperin, Time's editor at large. "The press rooted for Obama to go negative, and when he did he was applauded. When she does it, it's treated as this huge violation of propriety." While Clinton's mistakes deserve full coverage, Halperin says, "the press's flaws — wild swings, accentuating the negative — are magnified 50 times when it comes to her. It's not a level playing field."

Newsweek's Howard Fineman says Obama's coverage is the buzz of the presidential campaign. "While they don't say so publicly because it's risky to complain, a lot of operatives from other campaigns say he's getting a free ride, that people aren't tough enough on Obama," Fineman says. "There may be something to that. He's the new guy, an interesting guy, a pathbreaker and trendsetter perhaps."

Obama spokesman Bill Burton says the accusation of softer treatment is untrue but "the Clinton campaign whines about it so much, it becomes part of the chatter. No candidate in this race has undergone more investigations and examinations than Barack Obama has," he says, citing lengthy pieces in the Chicago Tribune and New York Times. "As Obama says, running against the Clintons is not exactly a cakewalk. Their research operation has ensured that if there's any information about Obama to be had, it's been distributed to the media."

Yeah, its so unfair that they actually get some of the press to agree with them. Too funny. At least the Obama campaign is having non of this little whine-tasting. They call it for what it is. Frankly, I think the press has been unusually kind to Clinton in the way they have been reporting her problems. They played along with the fiction of Hillary 'apologizing' to Obama after Shaheen set the smear up - then ignored it when Mark Penn reemphasized it and amplified it. Clinton gets her talking points into the media so often, the press ought to be acknowledged as campaign sponsors.

Oh, for the cheese? We'd suggest Limburger. That's what this complaint smells like.

The Clinton Albatross - Bill’s not exactly a fireman. He may instead throw gasoline on the fire.

Hillary Starts Two (More) Attack Websites

December 20th, 2007

From ABC NewsVotingpresent.com and Votingpresent.org are domains hosted by the same IP address as official Clinton Web sites, such TheHillaryIKnow.com, which was launched with much fanfare this week.

Hillary has never done anything except kibitz. She has never run anything but her mouth.

The Hillary We All Know

Hillary Clinton just launched her new site The Hillary I Know, designed to humanize her to draw down her high negatives, amid much fanfare. On the same servers, ABC News discovered a few other websites that Hillary plans to launch. She has set up domains for websites designed to attack Barack Obama and to claim that they attacked her first:

How Clintonian! Attacking opponents for attacking her while attacking them...it makes her look thin-skinned and petulant.  | Comments ( 15)  "Her problem is not bad advisors; her problem is bad personality. She's just, plain unlikeable, and she can't hide herself enough to keep the public from learning about it." 'Does Hillary think she's another Evita? '

"Panics easily doesn’t she? Obama may be a moonbat, but he is much nicer person than this Queen Of Mean."

It's All About Hillary --I've got a theory about why Hillary Clinton has been having a difficult time.

It's because she is the issue.

Guess Who Gave Millions To The Clintons?--The tawdriness of the Clintons will unfortunately get played out again for all to see.

Matthews Rubbishes Hillary Ad: I'm The Great Evita -- Worship Me!--the problem with Hillary was, her notion of government was, "I am Evita, I am the one who gives gifts to the little people and then they come and bring me flowers and they worship at me because I am the great Evita..."

Hillary Attacks!!

How do you spell desperation?

When Sneaks Attack

Published by Gaius under Politics

MSNBC is reporting what appears to be a singularly sneaky attack by a public employees union that is supporting Hillary Clinton but has sent out a direct mailing that appears to come from supporters of John Edwards. The mailing, from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) quotes Edwards but is on the record as supporting Clinton.

Here's the kicker, though: The piece quotes Edwards from a Sioux City Journal article in November saying that that "as many as 15 million Americans would be without coverage" under Obama's plan.

But, as it turns out, AFSCME is backing Clinton. In fact, even though Clinton and her campaign have been arguing for the past month that Obama's health-care plan doesn't insure everyone, Clinton's name isn't mentioned once on the flier. The Edwards quote makes it appear to be a slam by the Edwards team.

This tactic, it seems, could be intended to deflect the distaste that most voters have for direct attacks — even those that are policy based. But those in the know might think that this new negative mail is Iowa Nice playing a little dirty.

It isn't a little dirty. It is dirty. Period. They know that Clinton's negativity has rebounded and backfired on her, so they try to misdirect the backlash. This is likely to backfire even worse, though. Because both the Edwards and the Obama campaigns are very unlikely to let it pass without making sure people know who was really behind the attack - and who they are really backing.

Seriously, stupidly bad move. This will not play well in Iowa.

Hillary Buys Us Xmas Presents With Our $

December 20th, 2007

From her latest campaign ad, via YouTube:

Presents

Take a look at Hillary’s special holiday video, where you can see her wishes for the American people.

Isn’t she the Lady Bountiful?

Never mind that her oh so amazing beneficence would all be funded by money taken at gunpoint from us, the lowly the taxpayers.

Merry Christmas Happy Holidays, suckers!”
