Bill Bennett and Sean Hannity Support Torturing Saddam
FOXNews
Posted on 12/16/2003 6:25:28 PM PST by Flightdeck
On Hannity and Colmes a few moments ago, Sean and Bill Bennett (who I think is one of the most respectable analysts out there) both supported torturing Saddam and others to save American lives. I disagree with that for a number of reasons, but the foremost being that it is wrong in the eyes of God. Since this is my first posting of a thread, I apologize if the sourcing/location and stuff is wrong. I'm interested in others' opinions.

Source your statement that we will do summary assasinations.
You really hate Bush more than Saddam, don't you?

If I thought this tinpot goat herder was capable of killing millions of people that would be another matter. He will not be using any WMD where he is going, if he has them. Obviously he personally won't be using them. But those he gave them to very well may. It's a matter of national security.
I don't favor torturing the guy, nor do I suspect it will be necessary (considering the lack of courage he's shown). But I think it should be a last resort option, given the circumstances.

You forgot Madeleine Albright.
No I didn't forget. Saddam has already seen her naked. Good Lord, do you mind? It's suppertime out here on the coast!

I recommend the follow methods, although some sensitive people might think they are too brutal:
* Tape his eyelids open, and project wall-size nude photos of Hillary and Helen Thomas.
You inhuman b@$t@rd !

It's actually made me weep. Here's a hankie. Keep 150 watt lights on Hussein at all times, and keep him awake for 72 hours straight.
He'll talk.

Yes. I'm waiting for some documentation on summary executions as well.
The mere threat can sometimes accomplish its purpose.
The neat thing is, with GWB, these cretinous bastards just never know, do they?

There are many ways to make a man confess without even touching a hair on his head.
He will get the mercy of a quick execution, a mercy he extended to few of his victims.

Though, I must admit, I'm floored of late at the tit-for-tat mentality by which we think to stoop to conquer, lowering ourselves to the level of our worst mortal enemies.
Me too...and I've come to believe that these sorts are often tremendously frightened people.
I also believe many want to punish people far away for the fear they face in day to day life right here, as well as for other grudges and hatreds held long before that horrible september morning.

Let Saddam watch Rosie O'Donnell and Jerry Springer shows for days at a time with Bill Clinton speeches tossed in for fun.

He never soiled a single one of his manicured fingers with a shovel. The guys that did are the ones we want, and some of them, we have. Bosses are nowhere as useful for this sort of stuff as worker bees. You're undeniable correct if the weapons in question are buried somewhere within Iraq. But what if he sent them off - to Syria, Iran, or Russia - for safekeeping until after a war he thought he very well may be able to survive? In that case, his "worker bees" wouldn't know jack. Only the queen bee himself would (along with those in nations he made the deals with).

Torturing a terrorist war criminal perp in extreme circumstances when it may save many lives, and there is no other way is a rather mainstream idea. Alan Dershowitz among others has signed off on it, in the context of Osama. Whether Saddam would fit the bill remains to be seen. Granted it won't happen, at least by the U.S. But when he is turned over to Iraq, well, Iraq is Iraq. And who are we to cast the first stone in this circumstance? Although a hopeless sentimentalist about many matters, I tend to be rather unsentimental about these matters. I am real, real Old Testament when it comes to mass killers, who know stuff that could stop a bunch more of their favorite pass time just be spilling their guts. That is just where my moral compass is, errant though it might be. I have no plans to "reform."
