Joe Wilson Details His Affair with CIA Wife

He says the Bush administration violated his wife's privacy by revealing that she worked for the CIA.

But now Spygate accuser Joseph Wilson is sharing with reporters intimate details about his relationship with the allegedly secretive Valerie Plame, offering an account of the couple's "heavy make-out" session just before she told him she worked for the CIA.

Wilson, who said recently he would have sacrificed anything to guard his wife's privacy, offers the steamy details in the Jan. 2004 issue of Vanity Fair magazine.

The move has even supporters wondering if he's blown his credibility as a White House whistleblower just as the Justice Department rachets up the investigation into his claims.

Based on Wilson's recollections, Vanity Fair reports:

"Meeting in Paris, London and Brussels, [the relationship between Plame and Wilson] got very serious, very quickly. On the third or fourth date, he says, they were in the middle of a 'heavy make-out' session when she said she had something to tell him."

Wilson said that at that point his date interrupted their steamy tryst and decided to come clean. "She was, she explained, undercover in the CIA."

"It did nothing to dampen my ardour," he told VF. "My only question was: Is your name really Valerie?"

Wilson's decision to go public with details from his wife's sex life prompted dismay at the Washington Post, where editors have been trying to sell his complaint that the Bush White House blew his wife's cover as a serious national security scandal.

"Capitol Hill aides in both parties said Wilson had badly hurt his credibility with his apparently enthusiastic participation in a spread in the January issue of Vanity Fair," the Post complained last month.

"The article includes Wilson's steamy account of his early romance with Plame," the paper noted. "Congressional aides said the article bolstered the contention of Wilson's critics that no one had done more than him to draw attention to Plame, and that the couple had eagerly contributed to their celebrity."

Mr. Wilson himself seemed unfazed by the apparent conflict, telling the Post that his only complaint was that his wife "had to be clothed as generic blonde" in Vanity Fair photos to protect her identify.

Despite volunteering his wife for a new round of publicity, Wilson's allegation that her privacy had been violated is still being taken seriously at the Justice Department, which appointed a special prosecutor to review the case last week.

Many years ago I lived in an area where there were many people who worked for the federal government. I played on a softball team with some of them. When asked where they worked, almost all would say what agency they worked for. There were two guys on the team, though, who would only say that they worked for "the federal government." Everyone knew they were spooks.

Wilson is a creep.

BTW, was Wilson married when he met Plame? If not, how could he have "an affair", as it is commonly understood?

Joe Wilson has the Clinton personality, doesn't he? After reading about so much about him and his big mouth, there is no question about who outed his wife. Wilson loved to circulate at press parties, and, as Robert Novak said, it was "no secret" that's Plame worked for the CIA.

Wilson's problem is his enormous ego. I question if the third date story is even true. It just jacks up the public's image of him - that he's such a great lover that women are revealing state secrets on the third date.

"Wilson, for the first time in his life, finds that he is onstage, and he is doing everything he can to keep from departing. This "spy scandal" is completely overblown but Wilson just can't let go.

You're intuitive observance is dead on. Wilson is loving his "movie star" moment. Check out their poses and shades. I'm alternating between gagging when looking at their disgusting picture and laughing that they are such transparent fools, desperate for publicity.

Reminds me of the movie Ruthless People. You have to wonder if he still loves his wife. Exposing her could get her killed.

I know a retired agent, but he does not discuss what he did. I do not know whether it's against the rules but have to assume it is just something that is not done.

When our retired CIA friend was active, his cover was always as a State Department employee when overseas.

That is, how does someone from the Clinton administration, who has always been against Bush and the war, get assigned the mission of investigating Saddam's African nuclear adventure? An adventure the president of Niger still claims existed.

That is the neverending question on these Wilson threads.

I hope that is what this investigation is looking into.

I see Wilson met his wife more or less smack dab in the middle of the Clinton administration. Wilson was instrumental in setting up that infamous African trip that took literally thousands of people along for the ride.

(As I type this MSNBC now reporting what I just posted a thread about: The FBI is asking the administration to sign forms saying reporters can reveal their sources. Rolling my eyes, reporters are all atwitter about this "latest development")

Back to the Wilson duo: They meet while he's very closely allied with Clinton, and she's with the CIA. He says in the Vanity Fair article he has investments in Niger. He is sent by the CIA, unbeknownst to George Tenet or the administration to Niger. By his own hand he writes an editorial outing himself after stories had started appearing in print attributable to an anonymous source that the yellowcake/Niger intelligence had been disproven by a "diplomat". When the ball failed to start rolling Wilson writes his explicit piece which on its face is ridiculous, as he claims that his trip was the one and only investigation into the matter and his "findings" that no uranium deal was in the works between Iraq and Niger were conclusive, when his trip found no such thing.

So here's the thing: He leaks the "uranium lie" story to the media unnamed, than outs himself. Simultaneously an anonymous "CIA official" is appearing in BBC reports also saying how "Bush lied" in his SOTU Address. This was going on while the Kelly "sexed up" dossier saga was getting going to undermine Blair and that story was very similar: That "Blair had lied" about intelligence in order to go to war. These two charges were rolled out at EXACTLY the same time. It looks very orchestrated to me.

There are a lot of questions about what, exactly, the Wilsons were up to. I hope to see some answers.

Oh, and on New Year's Eve as we harkened back to memorable threads I remembered Doug Thompson's story that featured "Terrance Wilkinson" who claimed to be CIA and also claimed that "Bush lied" about Iraq and nuclear capability. Turns out Wilkinson was either fictional or a false name of someone out to bring down President Bush (as "Wilkinson" claimed per Thompson to have personally heard President Bush order them to basically make up evidence of a nuclear threat when "Wilkinson" claimed Bush was told there was no evidence. This conversation a complete fabrication). I hope the special investigator looks into whether this fraud dovetails with the Wilsons spreading lies about this administration, since the Wilkinson story appeared on the scene right on the heels of Joe Wilson's New York Times piece and "Wilkinson" was immediately being picked up in the mainstream media before Doug Thompson "admitted" he had been "duped".

Great summary. Sure sounds like the work of Hillary Clinton with a little Craig Livingstone on the side. Didn't Bill or Hillary one visit the UK about the time the BBC got involved in this story?

Imagine their conversation before the picture

Wilson: Wouldn't it be cool to have our picture taken in a convertible in front of the White House?
Plane: Yes! That would be PERFECT. Let me put on some lipstick and a scarf and sunglasses. We don't want to blow my cover. How much is Vanity Fair going to pay us?

Thanks, Quilla.

I remember reading that Bill Clinton went to personally entreat Blair to drop Bush and go against the War. Blair did not.

Payback?

I do think the "Sexed up Dossier" charges against Blair and the "Yellowcake" charges against Bush were a coordinated attack. Both an attack against the two men accusing them of lying, when the charges themselves were based on lies.

That was RICH and too funny!

Can't you just hear them saying: "The democrat pickings are so pathetic, this publicity stunt will probably propel us to Kennedy status! We just need to sell our souls to the devil while the selling is good! Afterall, the media will grovel at our dog poop covered heels for a potential anti-Bush story."
