am color blind. I make it a practice to never notice the color of someone's skin. It makes no difference to me.

I'm not color blind. I enjoy the variety of races and colors in the human race. I like people being different and think it would be boring if we were all the same.

One has to be blind not to notice color and physical differences in another. Background: I also grew up in a state that is (now) 95%-97% white. However; I have always tried to be respectful of everyone I meet, regardless of our physical differences. Now! I might not be as open to a overbearing loud mouth elitist Liberal! ;)

No, I think you are missing my point. A person's skin color is irrelevant to me. I see the color differences but they mean nothing to me. They mean nothing to my children.

I was taught as a child, and I still believe that you do not judge a person's character based upon the color of their skin, and I never have. A person is a person to me. Disabled, different colored skin, different religions, different cultures. None of it makes a difference to me.

It is who I am. I don't feel bad about it either.

BTW, I grew up in an area that is 100% pink skinned people.

I am not blind, I am color blind. I wouldn't change that for a moment.

I remember the first time I noticed a person who had darker skin than me... I was a child of 5 and I saw a lady in an elevator who had brown skin. I asked her if she ate a bunch of chocolate to make her skin so dark.( sure now that is embarrassing, but I was a kid)

She said no she was a black woman, and I said oh. Then she said something to my Mom I will never forget , she said "thank you". "Thank you for not teaching this child to be afraid of me, or that I am a color, or that I am bad because my skin is different than hers". I will never forget that. IT is who I am.

That was a lady, a woman with friends and a family, and a heart and a life story.

She was not a color, and I do not think she ever should be.

It is difficult to "walk away" when one's neighbor pumps >120 decibels of thoroughly irritating noise into your general area at whatever hour he feels convenient, shaking the very foundation of your house.
Multiply that neighbor, and that behavior, by tens of years, hundreds of variations, and tens of thousands of examples, all from the same ethnic group (even if they do not comprise a majority of that group), and you begin to see the inevitable "annoyance" basis for low-grade racial misgivings.
It can be combatted. This is one of the reasons I delight in the company of fellows like mhking, rdb3, and others - they serve -in part- as living reminders that the... twits... I encounter daily are not the alpha to omega of black America.
But... the annoyance persists - because actively seeking such counterexamples seems to be necessary, AND IT SHOULD NOT BE.

You are way off base. It has nothing to do with Kobe's color but more to do with the Rape Shield Law which protects the accuser's identity and past, be they BLACK OR WHITE.

When I'm wrong, I'll admit it and you're right. It was an off-base comment.

That's easy to agree with!

Alas, some church folks have gotten as obnoxious and hazardous on the noise level! Sigh.

" best black men turn against their race and marry white women. "

LOL....well, the tide is a'turning, because now, more and more white men are going for black gals and vice-versa....

my son is dating a wonderful black girl who is in college, speaks nice, sent us a Christmas card, and overall seems like a jewel.....she is the best girl that my son has ever gone with, the most decent, the most educated, the most friendly and down to earth...

I think in an ideal world, its better to fall in love and marry within your own "group" but how can I ever be against someone who is making a better man out of my own son....I can't.....infact, I pray that she will be a permanent fixture in my son's life and hopefully, maybe marriage, and perhaps some blessed grandchildren finally....

one thing I have noticed though.....people can say that they aren't prejudiced, like some limosine liberals, but in reality, they are the most evil bigots going....

I truely find that most conservative people are the least bigoted, the the group that is quicker to support other races/religions etc.....like the Freeper Nation....

You know, not to knock our american women (well, maybe a little), asian women know how to treat a man. Not that they're "servants" like some guys like to see, but they just know how be a good wife. So many women in this country are so hell-bent on becoming self-sufficient, they act like they don't need us or want us.

I told a lady that I didn't want a career, I wanted to be a wife and mother and take care of my husband. Well you thought I grew a third head or something!!! I understand your sentiment. I got the lecture of how a woman needs a career, a woman needs her own money, etc. How are you going to have a marriage without trust?

Tiger is part Asian, part white, part Native American, and part African-American.

You ever notice how, despite his mixed race background, he is always 'black' to the politically correct?

As far as I am concerned Tigers race/ethnicity is Golferus Americanus sub.perfectus

Always my favorite in any tournament...Go Tiger!

Besides, what's wrong with calling somebody a white man? I'm a white man and proud of it.

It is useful for identifying perps in APBs or Amber Alerts, but in general I consider racial adjectives as unnecessary baggage. I'm a human being and grateful for it.

We can butt heads on some other issue. I never grow bored with the inspirational, humane, wise stuff on this Forum. Thanks.

I believe you have confused dating with courting.

I kissed courting goodbye, because it doesn't work. Old fashioned, principled, marriage-oriented dating of the kind that my parents taught me, is what got me to the altar.

Oops, forgot to mention the drugs/weapons ridden neighborhoods we inhabit. But that's probably our own fault, since we are extremely resistant to burning down the coca and poppy fields in our sprawling backyards and the handgun factories at the corners of our streets.

The simple way to stop drug traffic is to stop buying drugs. No need to go overseas and burn anyone's drug crop. I won't go so far as to say it's "your" fault, because I don't believe in collective guilt. But drug use certainly IS the fault of the drug user.

As for handgun factories -- gun ownership rates and crime rates are generally *inverse* in this country. The most violent cities are the most gun-controlled. Conversely, loosening restrictions has often been shown to reduce crime. So don't burn handgun factories: BUILD them.

I think it's more important to mary someone that shares your same religious beliefs.

Did you also note that all of the hateful bilge in the article came from the person on the LEFT? Yep, that's right, the so-called peace-loving, diversity-obsessed Ivory Tower Militants who often accuse those on the Right of being racists. I don't know how many times I'd come across a 'Sleeping With The (White Man)Enemy'-type article in Essence Magazine, or how so many 'Sisters' felt threatened by the mere presence of a White Woman. I finally had enough and cancelled my subscription years ago.

agree with you completely... Sometimes I'll pick up Jet Magazine depending on who is on the cover BUT very sorry, won't read Essence ever again. Oh it was either Sister2Sister or Essence but a lady wrote an op-ed piece spewing a lot of hate and boy was she surprised (I suppose she thought the readership would agree). Years ago Ebony printed one of my letters. My mom never subscribed to Essence. She did have an Ebony Magazine subcription from a friend once. Only magazine my father allowed in the house was Reader's Digest and National Geographic since 'you could learn something useful'.

It was either the October 1997 or 1998 issue of Essence; the title of the piece: "Dating White: Why Sisters Go There," and yes, it was certainly filled with the same sort of Leftist bilge that made up the rebuttal in this post. And yes, every single letter printed was against the writer's point of view. Just because some of these relationships go bad (but then again, don't most relationships, regardless of who's involved?!) doesn't mean all White men are just out to hit and run, if you catch my drift, like this woman implied in her piece. One thing you need to remember about the Left: they seem to have this tendancy to take isolated incidents and blow them all out of poportion, in other words, making mountains out of molehills. They're the only ones who always obsess about racial issues while claiming to be fair and open-minded. Yeah, right.
