SCOTTSDALE - Randi Coy, the unwitting "star" of a Fox reality series that debuted last night, is in hot water with the school where she teaches. Last summer, between graduating from Arizona State University and beginning life as first-grade teacher at Pope John XXIII Catholic School Community, Coy, 23, attended an open casting call in Scottsdale.

You a network ad exec?

Hype tripe articles like this are garbage.

The show is over and the outcome known. She either was paid a half million or not. That is of direct importance for this article. But it is not mentioned at all because this is a PR article meant to hype a TV show.

I actually like this show, too because it exposes just how fradulent all of these "reality" shows really are. But the guy probably is going to take it too far.

Not even close.

If you'll re-read the article, you will notice the title, " Teacher ripped for reality TV role". The article is actually about the problems this person is having with her job after being on this program. Granted, there is a detailed description of the show in this article, but this would be necessary to include to illustrate why she was suspended from her teaching position.

Yep, this is just an glorifed ad for the show. They seem to be trying to drum up some "morals" controversy, but it seems that not even anyone at the school she teaches at really cares.

I'd say you seem to be the one who is not happy.

Um, why is a TV show worth posting to FR?

And at that, why an article that is simply PR hype?

I know, I'm a clown. Yes, that explains it. You are so clever.

OK.

She really doesn't sound ready to settle down and commit herself to teaching as her profession, does she? I can't fault the school on this, if she wants to be an actress, she should go be an actress and let someone who feels a calling to teach have her job.

If she got half a million she doesn't need the job.

Now please listen. Articles like this are make believe. This is all for show and for advertising.

She is not going to work another day in her life at this school. Articles like this are planned out long in advance of airing the show.

They are part of the show's promotional campaign.

"I'm taking it day by day... . I definitely have some resentment."

She has some resentment? As I read this, she was exposed as a lying slut who betrayed her family and prostituted herself for money.

As flim-flam artists used to say; "You can't cheat an honest man."

No sympathy for Randi Coy from me.

Coy said she wants to go back to her teaching job.

I'm sorry Miss, but your new "experience" has made you unsuitable for your previous position. Of course, you can always apply at the public schools. They pretty much will take anyone, so long as you have enough of those BS education credits, that is.

She isn't suspended, she's went on leave of absence to film and remains on leave to promote the show. Can't really do the talk show circuit and teach first grade in Scottsdale at the same time.

This is a pure promo-piece, compare it to the "stories" about Temptation Island, Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire and other Fox "romance" reality shows. Murdoch's crew is very good at writing these kind of fake stories.

I never said I want to see this thread pulled.

I'd say I'd like to see them not posted because it is weird for FR. Pulled, no.

You miss my whole point. An article about this show might be approriate. This is just a PR placed article that is essentially make believe.

The school's mission statements vow to teach students to become Christian leaders and responsible citizens, which might come into conflict with marrying a stranger on television for money.

Might? How about, "thou shall not lie"?

That guy is hilarious, and I can just imagine what it will be like when his 'family' is pulling out all the stops. But gotta wonder, where's the incentive for him, is he just naturally callous, seeking revenge on all the girls that rejected him in high school, or does he get paid more if she fails? Still don't know what to think about her, she's only 23, she could just be a good girl who made a bad decision, and just wouldn't back out because she's not a quitter. But really, how could she put her family through all this?

Plus, why was she sequestered for 2 weeks? Makes ya wonder how many other girls went through that opening sequence, only to say 'forget it' when the requirements were made known. The money is only $250,000 to them and $250,000 to the parents, and taxes will take about 1/2 of that.

Yeah, her constant bug-eyed and jaw-drop reactions seemed overdone, like an audition. Or maybe she really is that way, I know good-hearted gals who are that expressive. But none of them would put their parents through all that.

This guy was over the top and frighten the chick. He is trying to show himself to her (jailtime is most states), get her to join him in the hot tub as he is drunk off his butt. Screaming at the top of his lungs throughout the house moaning her name.

The show has potential if this actor guy would just tone it down and not make her feel physically threatened. I like the idea of the show but geesh. Talk about bad casting.

The deal is, though, why is this at FR? This and myriad other nonsense posts. There are many posts like this and I feel the same about all of them. FR didn't used to have such showbizzy gossip nonsense.

It's fine for TV Guide chat room.

Because it illustrates the effects of bad moral choices?

(Un)reality TV shows seem to be 100% garbage. I do not enjoy watching people be rude to each other, or purposefully shaft each other. Were it not for the feminization of our society, the perps would earn a well-deserved knuckle sandwich.

Why does she have to be a slut ? At least she really is not actually getting married on television. The premise of the show seems to be a huge practical joke. Candid Camera makes a show about lying to people all of the time are they just as bad for getting paid money to do the pranks that they do ? Slut is just a very harsh word in my opinion

I wouldn't say that she is a slut. Conceited and shallow, yes, but not necessarily slutty. Did you see the way she cringed whenever she had to interact with Steve? We need to keep in mind that 1. this is a practical joke ala Joe Schmoe 2. "Steve" is an actor and is fully in on the joke 3. Her upbringing and values (or lack thereof) will be exposed as the show progresses. Other than "24" this will be the only TV show I watch, and that being strictly for it's entertainment value.

That's right. The moderators do that. You don't. And that's a good thing too, not just for the rest of us, but for you. If one of the moderators thought that a wire story that either is or is not promoting a reality TV show isn't worthy of FR, s/he may have thought that threads about the Hewlett Packard calculator and Johnny Rotten on a (gasp!!) reality show shouldn't have been posted, either. But you commented on both of those threads without criticism.

Reality show ping.

This show turns out to be even more idiotic than anticipated, since a Catholic school teacher participates and thinks she should get to keep her job.

And to think of the Catholic school nuns of yore! I hope they send this babe job hunting at the public schools.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but this and other "reality" shows will continue to be discussed here as an element of what the heck is going on in the way of "entertainment".

I like some reality shows but chose to take a pass on this one. The element I found interesting in this article was this blond brainiac is a teacher at a *Catholic school* and evidently didn't think her job would be in jeopardy for her participation in this nonsense.
