Again, wait to hear before doing a "scream-and-leap" over a little snip on Drudge.

The FY 2003 Budget for the NEA was $115.731 million. That included a $10 million increase that was the "biggest in years". We're probably talking about something like $20 million.

I'd rather have our troops just a little more comfortable and safe overseas than flush $20 million down the toilet.

Kind of like that saying "a million here, a million there and pretty soon you're talking real money". This is totally in keeping with Dubya. The guy has not seen a federal program he won't throw a billion dollars at.

I am unhappy about this however - if he reduces it or tries to eliminate it, he hands a weapon to the liberals to attack him. It costs the taxpayer more money, however the RATS won't object, and they can't attack. They have to do it with some other issue. Now however, if they keep up the rabid attacks about the "daficit" President Bush can always propose cutting things like the National Endowment of the Arts, and a few other sacred cows.

$20 million would probably pay for 400 more border security staff, or handguns for 20,000 airline pilots, both of which we need more than anti-American / anti-Christian exhibits by deranged Leftists, doncha think? Just speaking for myself here, but give me 20,000 Glock's in the hands of airline pilots over 50,000 crucifixes in jars of urine any day.

The amount is irrelevant. It's the symbolism. For conservatives, for the last 20 years, the NEA has been the symbol of everything bad about government programs. Now he's going to boost its budget.

It's a direct, deliberate insult.

I'll bite...why isn't it a $20 million decrease?

It does turn out to be a $15 to $20 mil increase. I'd be much happier with a decrease. We don't need a National Endowment for the Arts at all.

I love and support this president, wholeheartedly, but I disagree with increasing the NEA.
