FAKE "2nd photo" of Kerry-Fonda at rally

Hey, Freepers: I don't know who PhotoShopped that fake "2nd photo" of Kerry and Fonda at the antiwar rally, but you should know that you came within AN EYELASH of causing a huge embarassment.

Thank goodness Raoul made a phone call, so Kristinn just got a call from somebody who is a longtime press friend of FR who was about to go nationwide with the "2nd photo" story. You've got no idea how close this was to being a train wreck.

I am told NewsMax actually got suckered on this.

The same veterans who had circulated the original Fonda-Kerry photo apparently got hold of the PhotoShop fake and didn't know it was a joke. So when these veterans contacted the press Thursday morning claiming to have a second photo -- man! A lot of valuable time was wasted as reporters contacted Associated Press trying to verify the existence of this fake photo.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful with this kind of stuff.

We should have a rule here that any photo that is doctored have a caption either on the picture itself or under the picture stating that it is a parody and not a real photo.

I think you should enforce this rule by suspending anyone who posts a fake picture or a doctored picture without a disclaimer.

Otherwise Free Republic is going to get a reputation of posting nothing but fake pictures and we will lose much of our credibility.

The parody image was made by combining the two images linked in post number 37 above.

I saw no parody in the image. It was not funny. It was presented as authentic down to the (AP PHOTO) tag and the great attention to detail. It was a hoax. There's a difference.

I like Registered. He's done great things with his talent. He screwed up this time and luckily - hopefully - we recovered quickly and nipped it in the bud. I hope that he learns something from this and doesn't repeat it.

Registered is famous for his parodies. Not excusing his judgment here, but doubt he set out to pass it off as real.

Actually, there was a b&w a couple of days ago that had that pic of Fonda at the microphone and Kerry was right behind her, but it was not that one of Kerry. I asked at the time if it was real. Anyway, I understand the b&w was fake.

The one that looks like a newspaper clipping with Fonda at the microphone and Kerry holding papers is a Photoshop composite and is FAKE Spread the word!

What about the one when you see Fonda in the field and you see Kerry's face in the back?

Ditto. But before anyone goes off running with something like this it should be checked out. There is no need to fake documents or photos. We are not like that. Freepers are honest and have character. We're working for the betterment of things...and stooping to this level for gain is never right.
