An anti-war marcher who asked not to be identified listens as Keith Cole of Murfreesboro, of the conservative group Free Republic, talks about anti-war demonstrators near the Federal Building downtown.

Beating drums and carrying signs calling the Iraq war unjust and President Bush a liar, about 450 people held a rally yesterday marking the one-year anniversary of the war.

It was a fabulous day! We thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Tennessean did a better article than I'd expected. I didn't think we'd get more than a sentence or two, since the reporter was there primarily to write about the lefties. Our presence was unexpected.

I think the adrenaline has finally worn off enough I can get a little sleep now. LOL! I'm glad I spotted this thread before signing off. Thanks for posting it. :-)

"So many people have died so we could catch one man. But we treat the deaths of Iraqis like they don't even count. They are treated like rubble."

This lady is horribly informed. She clearly has not read the reports or seen the pictures of mass graves left by Hussein. They were treating the people of Iraq like rubble.

Sigh. Middle Tennessee (especially Nashville) is about the only part of the state that could get away with these peace rallies. They've got so many transplants from up in the nether regions that their politics get real messed up sometimes. I lived in Nashville for a while and it's a wonderful place to live, but it's being overrun by non-natives who are destroying the naturally patriotic, easy-going, down-home culture that is Tennessee. It's sad.

"But we treat the deaths of Iraqis like they don't even count. They are treated like rubble."

Still, a LOT better deal than they were getting under Saddam Hussein, where they were being killed off in vastly greater numbers, for ideological or simply whimisical reasons. And practically all the Iraqis now dying are from the hands of other Iraqis, or of foreign fighters who have swarmed into the country to test their mettle against the Great Satan, the US. And are getting their collective butts kicked soundly.

I guess a press release next time might be a good idea.
I liked where we stood, between them and the Federal Building, it kind of made it look like we had a 'strategery'...
It only seemed logical to be on the 'right' side of the building.

John Smith (A Vietnam Vet) made this girl cry by telling her the truth about how anti-war activists damage morale for the troops in the field.

''These people are naive, they think you can negotiate with Islamic fundamentalists,'' said Nashville's Charles Byrd, holding a large American flag and standing with about a half-dozen other counterprotesters. ''But I think sometimes you have to take the war to the enemy.''

Hooah!

Beating drums and carrying signs calling the Iraq war unjust and President Bush a liar, about 450 people held a rally yesterday marking the one-year anniversary of the war.

Those who call Bush a liar must also acknowlege the same for both Clinton and Kerry.

In 1997 and 1998, Kerry and Clinton were more bellicose than Bush and even made regime change the policy of the United States.

Bush gets vilified for merely carrying out the policy.

Bush was left a mess by Clinton.

It will take some time in which to fix the mess this county was left by the Clintons.

It's a plasure to have a president who does what he says he'll do.

Show her the pictures of the dead Kurds that Saddam gassed. I wonder if she's ever mourned any of them.

Veterans For Peace is a neo-communist cell. Every Nov. 10 these idiots go to Cuba to celebrate veteran's day with their fellow communist veterans.

Hey Dude.

The media was suprisingly fair I thought. They were better than I expected.

However, they (including FOX's homeboy) all refuse to explain what ANSWER is all about or to describe the marchers as mostly pros which they were.

ANSWER has largely won the national PR battle over this and I'm not sure what anyone can do to stop it.

The Tennessean chick in the link was more fair than I figured to me. She was quite polite but I could tell from her questioning to me that she was somewhat symapthetic to the marchers....still given that I guess she gave us something of a fair shake.

Regards

Considering our FReep was put together on such short notice, hubby and I think it went off quite well. That corner was a perfect place to stand. Hopefully, we'll be able to have a larger turnout at the next one. It won't surprise me if the lefties plan something for May 1st.

John Smith (A Vietnam Vet) made this girl cry by telling her the truth about how anti-war activists damage morale for the troops in the field.

Good for him!! John was a fabulous addition to our group. It was a real pleasure to meet him. I told him about FR and he asked for the URL so he could check it out and I was happy to oblige him by writing it down. Maybe we'll have a new FReeper before long. :-)

He spoke with these three for quite a while. (that's John with his back to the camera) I don't think he got anywhere with the scruffy dude but I got the feeling the other two were beginning to rethink their views a bit.

The two veterans wearing dark blue jackets seemed genuinely surprised (and pleased) when I walked up and thanked them for their service and both reached out to shake my hand. Wouldn't it be wonderful if, at the next FReep, those two joined us? Ya never know!

I agree with you, I held out a little hope for the Tennessean writer, because she was actually taking lots of notes. I too, think we got more honest coverage than I expected.
You and sweet virginia and the littl'uns are great Americans.

I look forward to standing with you at the next one.
