John Kerry had seen the tactic before - it emerged on the campaign trail last week - but few others seemed to understand what was going on.What say YOU?Young Republicans wearing cheap sandals got in the front row and started clapping them together almost as soon as the Democratic presidential candidate took the stage at Sawyer Point on Tuesday.
Their message: that Kerry has flip-flopped on the issues.
"There's nothing I like better than talking to a great bipartisan crowd," Kerry joked. "You want to talk about flip-flops? This president said Condoleezza Rice wasn't going to testify, and the next day, she's going to testify."
Some union workers quickly surrounded the dozen Republicans with Kerry signs. Some elbows were thrown - as were some sandals - until two Cincinnati police officers broke it up.
The Hamilton County Republican Party disavowed any knowledge of the tactic, and Rep. Rob Portman - forced to field a question about the tactic in the official Republican response - seemed befuddled by it.
"I'm not sure hitting yourself in the head with a flip-flop makes a particularly compelling case," he said...

Here's a creepy coincidence.
Remember Wallace Carter? He's the Massachusetts man who in 1991 received two letters, nine days apart, from Sen. John Kerry, one opposing the Gulf War and the other supporting it. The New Republic published excerpts from both two months later. It turns out that soon thereafter, one of Kerry's colleagues gave a speech in which he mocked the haughty, French-looking Massachusetts Democrat, who by the way served in Vietnam, for the Carter letters. Dennis Roddy, a columnist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, tells the story:
It happened at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner of the Allegheny County Republican Party, March 20, 1991, at the William Penn Hotel.
At the time the first George Bush was still flush with victory in the Persian Gulf, and dinnergoers chortled over a videotaped presentation of assorted senate Democrats backpedaling in the wake of a war they'd opposed. Ted Kennedy was shown. News clips were shown. But for Kerry, the speaker simply read the two letters, to everyone's amazement.
"It's like those before-and-after pictures they print in the papers," the speaker said. "If they didn't tell you so themselves, you'd think they were different people."
Kerry has to remember that one. The speaker was Sen. John Heinz.

Former Democratic front-runner Howard Dean recently criticized current Democratic front-runner John Kerry for taking the wrong positions (by Dean's lights) on both the liberation of Kuwait, which Kerry opposed, and the liberation of Iraq, which he supported. As we all know, Kerry has tried to have it both ways on Iraq, voting "yes" on the October 2002 resolution authorizing war, then proclaiming himself shocked that President Bush actually waged the war Congress authorized.
It turns out Kerry was no less two-faced about Kuwait 13 years ago. The New Republic's blogger Noam Scheiber credits TNR intern Josh Benson with digging up an item that appeared in the magazine's March 25, 1991, issue, quoting a pair of letters Kerry wrote to constituent Wallace Carter of Newton Centre, Mass.:Jan. 22, 1991: "Thank you for contacting me to express your opposition . . . to the early use of military force by the US against Iraq. I share your concerns. This seems like the political rally comeback equivalent of "Oh yeah? Your mom!"
Good one, Kerry.
With all due respect, that's vandalism - of someone else's property. Much better to convert that person's neighbor by engaging the sign owner in debate and making them look foolish by use of facts in the face of liberal name-calling.
Now, if one were to create a sign with Kerry's face(s) on a flip-flop, that would be a horse(face) of a different color.

You know, what gets me about his "manners" statement is his lack of consideration for the "manners" used with unborn children. He won't lift a finger to protect defenseless babies facing dismemberment, but he's concerned about people being rude to him. Disgusting.

I see a new John "Frog" Kerry line of designer flip-flops by summer. I'd like a pair, one labeled "I voted for it.." and the other labeled "...before I voted against it".

Kerry attended the Builders Association Training Center in North Kansas City, Mo., where he also announced that he will undergo minor surgery on his rotator cuff.
Kerry said that White House officials have overstepped their bounds in their relentless criticism of Clarke and others. He said the White House responds to accusations or comments that they don’t like by going into “character assassination” mode.
Clarke has delivered testimony to the commission that could impact negatively on the Bush Administration. O’Neil questioned the need for additional tax cuts and was fired in 2002. His comments were included in a new book that is critical of Bush. Foster complained that he was stopped by his bosses from disclosing higher cost estimates for the Medicare programs.
On Saturday, the Bush campaign responded by saying that Kerry, like Clarke, is jumping at the chance to politicize sensitive national security matters.
Clarke has delivered information contradicting Dr. Condoleezza Rice’s comments that information on the possibilities of the attack was not available.About 40 Bush supporters attended Kerry’s arrival on Saturday wearing flip-flop shoes and chanting, "Flip flop Kerry..."
