Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. Air Crew Ejects in Tomcat Crash

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- At approximately 11 a.m. March 29, a two-seat F-14D Tomcat from Fighter Squadron (VF) 31, based at Naval Air Station Oceana, Va., crashed into the ocean approximately two miles west of Point Loma, Calif.

The VF-31 aircraft had launched on a routine training mission from the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) when it experienced engine trouble. The aircraft was diverted to land at Naval Air Station North Island, but crashed en route.

The two air crew ejected safely, and were picked up and transported to North Island by the Navy research vessel “SPAWAR 12.” The air crew is in good physical condition and at the Naval Air Station North Island Medical Clinic for evaluation.

The cause of the mishap is currently under investigation.
