Losing the vegan vote
Philadelphia Daily News ^ | 6/1/2004 | Dave Scopinich

Posted on 06/01/2004 5:44:52 AM PDT by dirtboy

I AM A conservative Republican on most issues.

But I can't donate to the GOP or vote for President Bush based on his - and the party's - stance on animal rights.

I am a vegan and a proud member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. I'm disappointed that the Bush administration has done nothing to improve animals' lives.

I saw a video of President Bush at a campaign stop during the 2000 election. In it, a reporter asks "What do you think about PETA?"

Then-Gov. Bush responded sarcastically, "I'm glad I ate my bacon for breakfast today."

President Bush couldn't show PETA even the least bit of respect. That disappointed me as both an animal-rights activist and a Republican. I want the Republican National Committee to know that I am a Republican - and an animal- rights supporter.

I ask the RNC and GOP politicians to support animal rights via tougher laws against animal abusers and stricter regulations on factory farms, zoos, circuses, labs and the many other places where animals are exploited.

The Republican Party is supposed to be the party of Lincoln, who freed African- Americans from slavery. The Republican Party is supposed to the party that protects life - especially innocent life. Let's live up to those ideals when it comes to animals.

I will not be voting for John Kerry because I disagree with too many of his views, and I could never vote for a pro-choice candidate. But I will not vote for President Bush either because I can't vote for someone so anti-animal.

This is why President Bush has lost my vote in this key swing state. Unfortunately, the only vote I can cast in good conscience is to write in Chris P. Carrot, PETA's candidate, as a protest vote.

I hope someday people will see society's treatment of animals in the same light they do slavery and the Holocaust - as a mistake made by humanity at its worst.

Ya gotta love letters to the editor or calls to C-Span that start with "I AM A conservative Republican" and then proceed straight into leftist nonsense.

I like when callers say the same thing, and then pronounce the president's name "Boosh".

Get that? Black people and babies are no different from animals.

Peta - Multi-million dollar org..How much of that money goes to animal shelters, animal hospitals, zoos, etc..? Give up? Take a guess, it`s a number between zero and zero.

My neighbor, and cousin, is an anal PETA person. My husband delights in cooking steaks on the grill and referring to "People Eating Tasty Animals" early and often. It makes her crazy!

It's funny though, all of her furniture is leather. Go figure.

anytime anyone starts a conversation with "i am a life long republican.." or "i voted for bush the first time..." get ready for some left wing lies.

Also PeTA is a hate group and should be investigated by the FBI.

Then-Gov. Bush responded sarcastically, "I'm glad I ate my bacon for breakfast today."

Was Bush really being sarcastic? Or was he just illustrating his opinion about eating meat?

Bush is allowed to like meat...right?

Jesus ate lamb.

I AM A conservative Republican on most issues. But I can't donate to the GOP or vote for President Bush based on his - and the party's - stance on:

1. militant lesbians, like myself, who wish to marry and eventually adopt children.
2. people like me who see Michael Moore as a cinema-graphic genius.
3. public Wiccan rituals involving nudity.
4. free expression through flag burning.
5. incest.
6. an openly Marxist curriculum in our public schools.
7. refusing to open dialog with and otherwise embrace the saucer people.

For the good of the Party, we simply must have more inclusiveness!

PETA equates black people with animals. Brilliant.

Im a conservative and a vegetarian. However, I cant and wont support PETA anymore. Especially since I found out that the founder of PETA supports sex with animals, as long as its not "rugged sex". I support vegetarianism and animal rights, however some of these so-called animal rights organizations are a little hypocritical sometimes.
