Hannity on his show had a call from a "moderate to conservative" democrat. The caller said it was a minority of dems dissing Reagan and the stuff on Democratic Underground was comparable to what was said here about Paul Wellstone.
Sean then stated that he didn't think so and if it was it was a minority of "Freepers" and certainly not the same as the mainstream commentators taking their shots at the Gipper. He said some here take their shots at him too, but he knows it's a just a few.
It was great to hear him straighten things out.
I had a feeling I should be recording his show today. He did well against that loser Rall last night.
All I remember was FReepers expressing their shock and disgust over the DNC turning Wellstone's funeral into a rally.
I just heard it, and he gave an accurate description of this community. Some user here are acid tongued, but most are civil.
Heard it. He did good by us.
It was dubbed the Funerally.
In any case, the complaint any Freepers had concerned the ranting and raging that took place at that campaign rally the Dems held in place of a memorial service ~ not with Wellstone himself.
Thank you Sean!
That's what I remember as well.
Seems eerrily (sp?) familiar to the Reagan situation. The truly scary thought is that Wellstone was one of their own!
Lastly, I will add, you didn't see posts on the OFFICIAL GOP web site/blog wishing Wellstone would have died long ago. Sean points out that you also didn't see that occur in the Washington Times, NY Post, WSJ, or any other conservative-friendly publication.
So, the caller to Hannity simply has it wrong.
I'm sure we can all look back to the archives and debunk this young kid's falacious impressions. I mostly remember Freepers commenting on the crass, classless use of a Senator's funeral for a rabid political rally.
Good point. Beat me to it (though I added a slightly different sentiment).
I did a search of FR when the same topic was broached by a liberal.
The comparison does not pan out. Freepers were respectful for the most part if not curious of what would happen with the election.

FReepers called Wellstone a ""Liberal"", and that is taken as a personal attack by the ""Progressives"". We attacked Wellstone by calling him the "L" word - and that shows what a bunch of mean bastards Freepers are...
”Guns Before Butter.”
There were several posts saying that their prayers went out to the family, but the majority were along the lines of "let him burn in hell", etc.
No conservative that I know was happy to see Senator Wellstone die. I didn't like his views or positions on anything that I can recall, but I had a lot of respect for him. He was always upfront with you, always had a kind word to say, and was consistent. Senator Kerry could learn a lot from him.
There might have been some speculation about whether the political implications were favorable to Coleman or not. Also, expressions of amazement at how Dem politicians and activists appeared more accident prone since 1992.
It would be much easier to find celebrations relating to Wellstone's death at a videotape of the Democrat's wake/rally than it would at FreeRepublic.
If an exception can be found, it mainly serves to prove the rule: Ghoulish hate is characteristic of DU not FR.
It seems, sadly, to be almost a plank of the Democrat Party now, as well.
I have a quandry in that I have a very dear friend who is the complete (polar) opposite of me politically; she is so far left that it is scary to me sometimes. We have agreed to disagree and NOT talk about politics out of our caring for each other. I think she is a loving and kind person, except when it comes to politics, when she can say the most amazingly cruel or hurtful things. It truly confounds me, but in the end, I put it down to her blind acceptance of the occasional articles she reads about political things. When you get your information from a cesspool, it is bound to be somewhat twisted.
