Iran seeks swap of Brits for suicide attackers

Report says 40 Revolutionary Guard 'volunteers' held by UK

Iran apprehended British military personnel and Navy vessels earlier this week in order to secure release of 40 "suicide operations volunteers" held by the UK, according to an Iranian Revolutionary Guard source.

The source told the London Arabic-language daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat that the British Army command in Iraq received the demand from the Revolutionary Guard, reported the Middle East Media Research Institute.

According to the source, the content of the message was very simple: "Release our comrades, whom you are holding, and we will release your soldiers."

Yes- however they started slipping away last November- as did the fellow I used to talk to in ING every day. He was- like clockwork. Said he was an Arabic/French translator-Tunisia?

Said he could not seem to get a job here- had come from NYC.

Suddenly- after the warning- he disappeared as did the fruit vendor in NYC.

He resurfaced only once later- had a briefcase- and was very unfriendly- did not acknowledge me.

This was a fellow who used to talk to me all the time, who was constantly asking me to go to his place. He would say odd things like "You like beer? We will drink beer." He seemed pressured- very odd.

Ashcroft: Plot to attack U.S. is far along

Attorney General John Ashcroft said in Miami that a terrorist attack on U.S. soil is likely before the presidential election and that vigilance in South Florida is high.
BY JAY WEAVER
jweaver@herald.com

Attorney General John Ashcroft issued a warning in Miami on Wednesday that the terrorists behind the deadly assaults of Sept. 11, 2001, are ``between 75 and 90 percent complete with their planning for a major attack against the United States this year.''

But he offered no specifics.

Ashcroft recalled the significance of South Florida in al Qaeda's operations: 14 of the 19 hijacking suspects lived in local homes and motels as they plotted the 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and the Pentagon.

The region, with its ports, airports and millions of visitors, cannot be ruled out as a possible target or base of operations, he said.

''In South Florida, we're very much aware of not only the target value of such an important area, but also the fact that it could be a place where others would be in support of activities to be undertaken at another target,'' Ashcroft said at a news conference at the U.S. attorney's office in Miami.

``With that in mind, we are at a high level of intensity.''

Ashcroft, who has drawn criticism for some of his actions in the U.S. war on terrorism, met with local, state and federal law-enforcement officials who are part of the Southern District of Florida Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council. It consists of 158 agencies, from the Aventura Police Department to the Broward Sheriff's Office to the FBI.

Ashcroft met later Wednesday with officials in Tallahassee as part of a cross-country tour to visit with 93 U.S. attorneys' offices and boost the government's anti-terrorism campaign.

Miami Police Chief John Timoney, who recalled being a vocal critic of the U.S. government's sharing of post-9/11 information when he was chief in Philadelphia, praised the cooperation.

He said the terrorist threats cited by Ashcroft were authentic, based on his review of intelligence information.

''I have been privy to information I can't discuss,'' said Timoney, who sits on the antiterrorism advisory council. ``But there is a certain amount of specificity in the [al Qaeda] chatter in regards to what people are trying to do, and it's enough to concern me.''

U.S. Attorney Marcos Jimenez, who chairs the council, echoed Timoney's views.

''We have credible intelligence about threats before the [presidential] election,'' Jimenez said, rejecting a television reporter's characterization of Ashcoft's appearance as a ``dog and pony show.''

''I've had the classified briefings,'' Jimenez said. ``These are not dog and pony shows.''

COURT RULINGS

The Bush administration suffered a serious setback in two major cases this week when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that it went too far in locking up terrorism suspects and denying them access to U.S. courts.

The court's rulings will affect the case of Jose Padilla, a U.S. citizen of Puerto Rican descent who has been in custody without charges for two years because he was suspected of participating in a radioactive, or ''dirty,'' bomb plot. Padilla, held in a South Carolina naval brig, plans to challenge his detention.

PADILLA CASE

According to law-enforcement sources, federal prosecutors in Miami are weighing whether to indict Padilla, a former Broward County resident, on charges of providing financial assistance to a terrorist group run by an Egyptian sheik convicted of plotting to blow up New York City landmarks.

Ashcroft and Jimenez declined to comment about Padilla's case.

Interesting read, exploring whether Mohamed was in fact possessed by demons:

http://www.faithfreedom.org/Articles/sina/Jinns_that_haunted_mo.htm

Contains the following quote:
For the primitive people all those who were mentally sick were "demon possessed". Today most of the cases of "demon possessions" are treated and contained by medications. It is not illogical to think that if Prozac was invented 1400 years ago, the world would have been spared of Islam and millions of lives would have not been sacrificed at that Altar of Allah.

Two ultras, 2 jawans killed

Excelsior Special Correspondent

JAMMU, June 30: Two militants and two soldiers were killed and four security personnel were injured in two separate encounters in the twin border districts today while a civilian was shot dead by the ultras in Mahore last night.

Official sources said the troops of 100 Brigade cordoned off village Sam Samad in Thanna Mandi area of Rajouri district last night after getting an information that two top Pakistan militants had taken shelter in the house of a civilian Maqbool Hussain.

Troops had to exercise restrain to avert civilian casualties since the area was populated. At about 1.30 am, the Army personnel succeeded in evacuating all local villagers including the family members of Hussain from the houses and shifted them to safer areas. The operation was also joined by local police.

Later, the troops exchanged firing with the militants. Encounter between the two sides continued till 8.30 am in which both the militants were killed. Troops didn’t suffer any casualties in the operation.

Slain militants have been identified as Osama and Rehman, both Pakistanis. They were activists of Jaish-e-Mohammed outfit. Sources said Osama was presently operating as ‘district commander’ of the outfit.

SSP Rajouri S A Mujtaba also visited the spot during the operation.

Recoveries made from the slain militants included two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, one hand grenade, one wireless set and two pouches.

Sources said the militants had sneaked into Sam Samad with a view to carry out some civilian killings. Their plan was foiled with timely action by the Army, they added.

Meanwhile, another encounter took place at Chaprian in Sabjian sector of Poonch district when Army and BSF observed movement of a fresh group of militants trying to infiltrate into the Indian territory from Line of Control (LoC) in early hours of this morning.

The militants opened heavy firing on the security personnel, who retaliated. Exchange of firing between the sides continued throughout the day today and was still on when the reports last came in, the sources said.

An Army and a BSF jawan were killed in the firing while three BSF and an Army soldier were injured. However, there was no report of any militant casualty in the gun-battle so far.

Deceased jawans have been identified as Lance Naik A B Mane of Army and Sepoy Manoj Pandey of BSF. Injured included Gopal Dass and Raman, head constables and Sepoy Pankaj Thappa of BSF and Lance Naik S M Abrot of Army.

Sources said three to four militants were still trapped in the cordon while others had reportedly managed to escape back to Pakistan.

Injured security personnel have been shifted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, two militants last night entered in the house of Ghulam Qadir son of Keema Chowdhary at village Dhandli in Arnas area of Reasi police district last night. They kidnapped Gulzar Shah son of Gani Shah R/o Dhok Dama, who was brother-in-law of Ghulam Qadar from the house and took him to a field about 50 meters away from the house. where they shot him dead.

The militants escaped after the killing.

But recall- London was to be hit first- followed by a "symbolic" hit on the US which would destroy the entire city.

At that time, our leaders would watch from their bunkers.

It was not clear from the threat whether or not they could call a truce at that time.

I believe Philly is to take the first "symbolic" hit.

Then- NY,DC,LA to follow shortly thereafter.

I still think Philly gets hit tomorrow 6-02-04- Full Moon and all- Friday-

Pray that they cannot pull it off.

Mostly restaurants. There is one close to City Hall where illegal young single middle eastern men work. All are in their 20's to 30's and most quite good looking. 2 years ago my daughter went out with one of them- Ben sometningorother. I met him once. He was supposedly a server with an airline company out of Spain. He was originally from Tunisia and flew all over the place cheaply- including to Egypt.

One of his friends got a 50 year old Philly woman to marry him to become legal. Money was involved, of course, and I believe the woman had to stay in Egypt for awhile.

Ben was a devout Muslim but would take my daughter to the bars (he would not drink or smoke.) He was quite charming, and ran her phone bill up 700 dollars with calls to his family in Tunisia.

At that point, she dumped him. He never paid her back- but continued to live here.
