And, of course, as always, he is correct.

Actually, he is part right. An NRST without spending reform is meaningless as far as reigning in government spending. What it DOES accomplish, besides being much more equitable, is make everyon more aware of the cost and burden of unchecked government spending.

You got a problem with that?

It does not promote awareness to the dolts that don't pay attention.

They will just see prices go up and blame Bush (or whomever it is at the time.)

The National Sales Tax is a great way to boost cross-border economies.

Exactly. The left's big fear about this is that once everyone is paying at least a little of this tax, it becomes MUCH harder to raise it. It's too easy for people to lose part of their check and not think about it. They lost money they didn't even have, so it's painless to sheeple that don't stop and think about it. Pop for the tax while you're buying a new couch, and it becomes a WHOLE lot harder to support the next raise in taxes. I support the NRST.

Walter and I finally agree on something?
I'm stunned. There's hope for him yet!

Most people have no comprehension of the cost of government, the NRST would remind them at every purchase.

...If the Fed. gov't respected the constitution from the beginning, we wouldn't be wasting time on spending reform. That's the problem...

No. The price of a product will actually go down, and will still continue to be 'tagged' on a product as it is now. They will however notice when the 'at register' price goes up when the tax is increased.

Do you think people don't notice when their local, county, or state sales tax increases?

You need to look closer at the FairTax plan. They give every person in America a monthly allowance equal to the sales tax at the poverty level. Therefore, anyone under the poverty level actually makes money with this plan and if the tax is raised, they make more money.

The FairTax is the largest government entitlement program in the history of this country.

Sinclair Lewis wrote, "It Can't Happen Here" wherein the plot proceeds to detail how it could based on a character called "Buzz Windrip" who ran for President on the platform of giving every man, woman and child $10,000.

It couldn't be done in the 1940s and it can't be done today, do the math.

I respect and admire Dr. Williams a great deal, however, I would like to know what his solution is? I agree that there needs to be spending reforms, but we need an alternative to our current tax structure that distributes the tax burden across the entire population.

Perhaps the current proposal for the NRST is imperfect, but it is a beginning to fix a tax system that is so irreparably broken NOTHING can be done to salvage it other than to completely scrap it and start over.

At a rate of 30-50%??? You're d@mn right I do.

That is about what you are apying NOW. Most of it is just buried in other costs. Remove that, and even compensating for profit taking, things would be a bit cheaper. People would have the added advantage of not having to woory about the IRS boogeyman.

You've got to admit seeing the IRS slashed would be a good thing.

You mean, as in running across borders to avoid it?

If that's what we're paying now, then nothing is changed except who pays the tax and who gets paid off.

If "things" get cheaper and the tax is more, the price goes up.

I don't worry about the IRS now. But 50 different IRS's might worry me a bit.

Where in the world are you getting the 30-50% number for the NRST?

If that's what we're paying now, then nothing is changed except who pays the tax and who gets paid off.

The same people will pay the tax that do now. THE CONSUMER.

Don't forget accountants. I mentioned the NRST to mine and he said in monotone voice that he wouldn't have a job. I didn't say anything else, I need him on my side.
