...and it won't find or delete them.

Quix, sometimes the only thing that works is to reboot in Safe Mode, load Explorer ( Not Internet explorer, rather the one that is bundled with Windows... think it's in accessories ) be certain you have enabled it to "show all files," and hunt it down manually. Write down the path and exact filename, otherwise you'll go blind trying to find it.

Yesterday I was looking for the same spyware solution because I was being bombarded with popups at work INLUDING porn popups - and I've NEVER visited a porn site! I went to the Windows site at www.windows.com and there were two programs that could be downloaded for free. I downloaded one of them, and used it to elimininate my spyware.

Use www.panicware.com for PopUp-Stopper, www.lavasoft.com for Ad-Aware, www.zonealarm.com for ZoneAlarm and http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html for SpyBot S&D.

Anyone attempting to get Ad-Aware should be careful: there is a product called Ada-ware which is NOT what you want.

The Ad-Aware product mentioned and endorsed on this thread is from LAVASOFT.

Download HijackThis and run the log passed the guys at Spyware Info Forum. Some very sharp techies hang out there who know exactly how to purge your machine of the full array of sypware pests on the net.

If you have Zone Alarm Pro you can get PestControl from them. I use it and it works

I believe so. In fact Netscape was known as using Mozilla protocols years ago. I don't really know the whole history but I do know that Mozilla browsers are more efficient than IE.

how do I get rid of this spyware crap that is on my computer?

Worms, viruses and other crapware are the natural environment for Windows. Get used to it - or get a Mac.

I tried Mandrake for Windows about 4 years ago and found it to be very user friendly. I had a pro install Redhat for me on my home machine that's networked and bought a new modem. I've never been able to get it to network properly and gave up on it. If I went back to Linux, I'd go with Mandrake, but last I looked my modem wasn't supported.

Thanks for the info... I tried SUSE's home version, but sent it back in disgust because it wouldn't log on to the 'net during install for updates and patches ( despite the fact that their LiveCD did so seamlessly ) and it would not let me log into the system... apparently had a bad disc, although from what I read, modem support is still kind of iffy.

I tried spybot and I kept getting this parasite that monitored my key strokes and the programs I opened, until it finally "educated itself" such that i could not access any web page after my home page. My computer would just freeze up. I uninstalled spybot, and all these problems went away. I later re-installed spybot and they came back. So I refuse to allow spybot on my computer.
