Spider ID Help
Spadata ^ | 4 Jul 2004

I need some SPIDER identification help.

A few weeks ago, I was bitten by a Brown Recluse (very painful and long lasting effects). One of my dogs was bitten by another spider - and my wife a couple days ago was also bitten - but NOT by another Recluse luckily.

Tonight I just found THIS rather large spider sitting at my back door - now dead!

Can anyone identify this arachnid? Hot Springs Arkansas area. Thanx!

ps. that is 1 inch on the scale.

This is a brown recluse:

What you have looks like a plain old orb weaver to me. HINT: BR's make cobwebs, orb weavers make spiral webs.

Lots of Brown Recluse-related pix.

I think it's a black widow.

I think it's a type of wolf spider, but you still need to move.

Looks like a sub-type of the Wolf Spider. Common to North America. Usually found outdoors but sometimes gets in the house. Does bite but the venom is very mild in toxicity. A small number of individuals could be sensitive to it though.

It kinda looks like a common Wolf Spider similar to a North Carolina Wolf Spider.

Here is a link to some common spiders in your area

Good Luck

I agree with the wolf spider ID. Not certain, but size alone rules out just about everything else. Here's a photo: Carolina Wolf Spider
