A few minutes ago I posted here about Linda Ronstadt. No swearing, no personal insults. Other posters here viciously attacked and insulted Ronstadt, their posts remain. My post got deleted within minutes. Are you guys really that scared? I believe in free speech and the exchange of opinions, obviously you don't. Mr Robinson, answer me: on what basis was my post deleted? I almost feel compelled to post on various other websites how I doubled up laughing about the cowardice on display here. Again, show me your courage please, cheers from the Leftist Dutchman!
You and me both...and such memories I do not care to discuss...The Nipa Hut at Clark AB for one...
Screen them carefully.
YIKES!
Rhetorical tactic--begging the question. In this example two questions. First, America is a Western concept that existed long before this continent was brought to the attention of the kings of Europe. Second, how are Indians considered the original inhabitants when the evidence shows otherwise?
10 month quarantine and full compplete blood work screening.
bwahahahahaha!
helllllloooooooooo tata/tafkatld where are you??????
Are you under this rock? no
How about this one? no
tata/tafkatld come back, we want to play...........
For that comment--do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Go straight to Tiajunna.
Amen to that, SaveTheChief.
Checking in a couple of hours later, I see he's still around. Where's he hiding now?
OK.
I'm talking about the Dutchman who thinks (along with Michael Moore) that those of us here in the USA are the most stupid people on the planet?
And I'm speaking of the Dutchman who has posted on DU that it is, in his opinion, a good thing that European nations restrict the free speech of their citizens through "hate speech" laws.
Is that you?
I thought your introduction, of sorts, was informative, and I have a couple of initial questions:
1. You mention Marvin Olasky as if the name itself is some sort of self-apparent epithet. Many on this site think he's one of the most brilliant thinkers on social matters to come along in many a year.
What shortcomings, specifically, do you find with "compassionate conservatism" as he describes it. Not talking about how Bush has or hasn't implemented policy based on Olasky's tenents, but rather his beliefs themselves.
2)Your statement that there were, "no ties between Iraq and Al-Quaeda" is false, and no "investigative committee" has stated otherwise. Overall, intermittent and/or continual ties between the two is one thing, explicit Iraqi assistance in the specific attacks that took place on September 11, 2001 is another.
I can post here on a daily basis that I want to see someone hit John Kerry in the face with an egg, but if someone reads this and, inspired by my hatred of Sen. Kerry, does just that, the fact that I wasn't directly involved (and, furthermore, that I liked the result of the attack after it took place) doesn't make me completely innocent. Anyway, your comment is a common misperception.
3) You mention the chance, post 2001, for the US to "unite the world" to undertake "concerted efforts" against terrorism.
How would this have happened? How could it?
International animosity against the US long predated 9/11. Why would the death of approx. 3,000 in a terror attack change this?
See, I think most European animosity in particular stems from the US's historical relctance to have reasonable foreign policy determined by the opinion of others. Even if de facto anti-semites in places like the French government think otherwise, I think it's reasonable for the United States to support Israel in the face of the unrelenting pressure (of one form or another) they've faced ever since multiple Arab countries spit in the face of the UN's wishes and attacked the historically-rooted Jewish state in 1948.
So, some deluded radicals plow planes into buildings one day and the US is supposed to alter it's reasonable policy supporting a Jewish state in the Middle East? You and I both know that, at it's core, any sort of "concerted effort" against "terrorism" would have included international demands that the US "rethink" it's support of Israel.
Sorry, the most powerful nation in the history of the world does not need to succumb to cheap blackmail, does not need to alter long-standing, reasonable policy.
Add to this the fact---fact---that the UN has proven little better than the League of Nations did in enforcing it's will in troubled areas of the world, and the US acting in concert with like-minded nations outside of the auspices of the UN made more and more sense with every French-led effort to protect the sweetheart deals French oil companies had with the Hussein regieme...uh, I mean "sensibly counterbalance arrogant US policy in the region."
Anyway, I know this is long-winded, but I hope you take the time to address these points. Best of luck to you on this site, if only because you're vastly outnumbered.
(PS--People here are not kidding when they say they themselves could never go to a Left-leaning site and do this; they'd be banned so fast your head would spin. Last I checked, this thread had nearly 400 replies...)
hmmm -
I was not here yesterday under another name, if that is of any help.
Yes, we Dutch have all access to the best health care there is in the world. It is affordable to anyone - until we adopt the U.S. system, that is. Luckily there is no 'Objectivist' philosophy of any importance in Holland which denies people with low income access to hospitals because 'there is no rights to the fruit of another's labour' as someone paraphrased the sad Ayn Rand school of thought here. Millions and millions in the US can't afford health insurance. Strangely enough, every Dutchperson can, and still our hospitals are top class, as is the salary of Doctors and other personnel. If that is called socialism, then let us have it in spades.
Perhaps its best that you over there practise your own philosophy, and we do likewise with ours.
We have no ghettoes and no guns. A very low crime rate. No insane 'three strikes' crime laws.
It is strange that you guys come up time after time with the very tragic death of many French elderly citizens. No one could foresee the gravity of last year's heatwaves that plagued Europe. No one reasonably could expect this to happen. It was a very sad series of human casualties. The Iraq war was an act of will, done by people, under false pretext. It is highly shameful that many of you again evade the Iraq tragedy by mentioning the French heatwave and its results - it shows how weak and invalid your points are, and how desperate some of you must be to resort to such debating tactics.
I read a lot and thereby am quite capable of forming my own opinions. That said, I would never succumb to getting brainwashed by Fox TV and their ilk. It amounts to mind-numbing stupidity to follow the party-line set out by Fox. Fox resembles the old Sovjet media much, much more than any of the media I consult. In its one-sidedness and partisanship and generally ultra-low intelligence quotient media like Fox are unequalled anywhere in the world (well, except for North-Korea, perhaps). 's Funny, the things you blame the old stalinists for are abundantly present in some US institutions.
No, I am not a communist, neither am I a socialist in the old sense. I would label myself a social-democrat.
No worry, I'll be back tomorrow, and let the thread live and prosper in the meantime.
JesterBeeber has returned in post #197 on it's thread.
Maybe we should hide the spears?
Poking under rocks with them may frighten the easily frightened and scittish trolls.
Besides, I'm just a harmless little bunny rabbit, right?
"In its one-sidedness and partisanship and generally ultra-low intelligence quotient media like Fox are unequalled anywhere in the world (well, except for North-Korea, perhaps)."
You meant to say ABC,NBC,CBS,CNN,NYT,MSNBC instead, right?
They are more biased and one sided than ANY news agency out there besides the BBC and Al-Jazeera.
Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my Viking Kitty/ZOT ping list!. . .don't be shy.
Finally, after all of your obnoxious, ill-founded blathering you accidentally struck upon a kernel of truth.
ooo!
