Eating our own...Time to make a new start in Free Republic.
7-26-04 | Bob J

Posted on 07/26/2004 7:41:11 PM PDT by Bob J

The last few months I've seen an increasing trend for FReepers to start going for each others jugular. Sometimes we forget (I've certainly done it myself) that in the grand scheme of things, we are on the same team. We may disagree on priorities or how far we are willing to go, but we have enough enemy in the left without creating more amongst ourselves. We can disagree but be civil to each other. We can debate nuance, but not believe that our personal positions are more important than the health of the whole. Let's argue vigorously but remind ourselves the guy whose trachia we are ripping out today may be sitting next to us in a foxhole tommorrow.

I'm going to propose that we all make a new start. Let's put all past differences behind us and resolve to band together and fight the good fight, the elimination of liberalism as a significant culturual influence in America...and see that to its end in our lifetimes.

If you agree, please post your thoughts and ping your lists and your friends to this thread.

All the newbies lately who are allegedly "looking for a reasonable debate" always have the same MO.
First, they talk about how they thought this site was about freedom, free speech, etc. and there sure doesn't seem to be much tolerance for dissenting views.
Then, they go on about some of the ruder, funny posts and say they're mean spirited. So, they waste more bandwidth complaining, inviting more catcalls.
And on it goes, til they're banned or stop posting.

I've been on this Forum for a while

I for one have enjoyed the new fire and brimstone destructive comments and cold technical troll baiting exhibited on the forums in the last 6 months. To use a concept from the left, the reason I see it getting so cold over here, there aren't enough new memes being produced on our side, and everyone is getting reactionary instead of proactive. That being said, I think we need more contrails and conspiracy theory threads again, to let those looking for blood attack people in a controlled environment, without consequence.

I also agree wholeheartedly. FR should always be friendly, fun, and intellectually honest. You don't have to agree with everyone (but let the ZOT's fall where they may)

Besides, I think Billyboy may have done more to unite freepers in the past couple of minutes than y'all might realize.

S'okay... I won't win anyway. We're lucky if the press even acknowledges that we are actual candidates, and that's a shame, because we've got a good man running for lieutenant governor:

www.mikeformissouri.com

Mike Ferguson is a pretty decent guy, from what I can tell, and compared to the melonheaded SOB we have for governor, I wish Ferguson would run for HIS job.

I happen to think that conflict is essential to growth. Let all hell break loose. It only makes us stronger.
