Poor doggies. That's gotta hurt.

I imagine it does hurt. He did have problems removing the spines from a large dog.

The vet told us this has only started in the past 8 - 10 years. He thinks someone had them as pets, and let them loose into the wild. The porcupines don't have many natural enemies, so they thrive here.

Holy poop on a stick.

Two nights ago a friend and I were walking dogs about two blocks from where they found the cubs. I heard something in the pitchblack-dark woods and couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was.....the walking sounds were too heavy to be a rabbit or dog and it was too dark to be a person without a flashlight.......

I need to do some laundry.........

You didn't used to see armadillos north of the Gulf Coast in Alabama. Now they span clean into Tennessee. Their only natural enemies are cars and trucks.

Lets see, we got the West Plano Wolves, the Plano Wildcats, and the Plano East Panthers. Now I guess we got Bobcats too!

Another natural enemy of the armadillo is fire ants. They kill most of the babies.

I work in the Richardson Telco corridor and have seen bobcats in the area here.

We have some walking/cycling trails around a little creek just up the road from my office. The place is loaded with everything from bobcats to armadillos to snakes of all sorts.

Semper Fi

I work in the same area. Haven't seen any but will start keeping my eyes peeled.

We have fire ants. Alabama fire ants must not like the taste of Armadillo.

We have fire ants.

If they are the native fire ants, they don't bother the armadillos, quail, rabbits, etc. that have ground or burrow nests. The imported fire ants we have here in central Tx have been known to kill baby deer and calves.

"had them as pets, and let them loose"

Negative, they are native Texas critters. They are found from the East Texas Pine Woods to El Paso to the High Plains. They are out mostly at night. You would not know that they are out there 'cept for the dead ones on the highways.

I know the porcupine are native to East Tx., but did not know they are in the central Tx. area. Of course, we never see most of the nocturnal creatures anyway. They eat while we sleep.
