My wife of a whole month and a half is interested in getting a firearm for personal protection, as she works in an unsavory part of Philadelphia. She has limited experience with guns (her dad was a cop), but could use some advice--and many Freepers are much more knowledgable than her new husband. I joined the NRA on principle a few years ago, but shoot mostly my friend's stuff. She is barely five feet and has small hands. What's the best choice, considering cost? Also, any tips on getting a permit in the Tri-state area. Can you carry across state lines?
There's an Al Bundy "Psycho Dad" joke here waiting to bust out. :)
Oh yeah--she's a sociology professor--the perfect Freeper bride, ha ha!
Ruger SP101 hammerless in .38 Special.
Lightweight, fits a woman's hand well, and goes right into the purse.
9mm is perfect for a lady. Teach her to aim at the crotch. It is very effective self-defense.
What ever gun the kid behind the counter says "rocks!".
...although I always liked the look of the Derringer in the garter belt look! :-)
Suggest you try a Glock. They come in many different sizes and calibers.
WHAT!!!
Haven't you heard? Guns KILL PEOPLE!!!! Innocent, defenseless, kindhearted, puppyloving people!!!
CNN said so and they wouldn't lie!

I hope she doesn't decide to use it on you.
bttt
I second that or some similar small frame .38/357 with a 21/2" or 4' barrel.
I am also 5' tall with small hands. I have a Colt 380, fits perfectly. Have her handle several different models and see what is comfortable for her. That's what my husband did. Also see that she gets plenty of practice at a shooting range with a qualified instructor so she is confident handling it.
My wife loves her Walthers PPK Stainless. Small caliber (.380), but an effective, SAFE gun. Liked it so much I got another for myself. For those capable of carrying one, the trusty 1911 .45ACP wins for stopping power and reliability in MY book. Personal preferences only.
One that kills bad guys. There are lots of that kind out there.
I considered that. For a while, I had life insurance through the NRA, and she didn't off me then. I don't plan on pulling a McGreevey any time soon, so I think we're cool.
