I know that I'm little bit late in posting this thing-they've already finished the first segment-but I've always abided by the motto: "Better late, then never."
Farah Pahlavi is discussing her husband, her recently published book (An Enduring Love), and the future of Iran.

I know, I know.
No links.
But still, a great place to debate the future of Iran.
Have at it!

Another wondrous "Scourge" thread that will, inevitably, die on the vine.
Alas.

I needed a haircut in early 2002 and randomly picked an open barbershop/beauty shop in Chula Vista. An old Iranian guy was the only employee at the store that afternoon. It turns out that he was the hairdresser for the family of the Shah. He handed over all his personal wealth in exchange for his life and a ticket out of Iran when the Islamic fundamentalists took over. Eventually, he made his way to the U.S. and resumed his craft in Chula Vista, CA.

The future of Islam, in 30 seconds:
Join us or die!
Never!
Okay!
Lots of gunfights and splosions
Some sappy touchy feely video montage thrown in for no apparent reason
Tanks!
Bombers!
Splosions!
God Bless America, and the United Mid-east Protectorate.
The end.

Yeah, that story sounds very familiar.
I think that President Bush has a female hairdresser/barber who is an Afghan refugee.

Thanks for the links,
backhoe. It really was an interesting conversation between Lopate and the Shah's wife, if you were able to hear it.
She also did a fascinating interview with Barbara Walters.
Unfortunately, I found it to be a bit too fawning for my tastes.
I mean, I respect her opinion as much as the next guy, but "your majesty?"

With Iran being so much in the news as an anti-American state, and thought to be fueling terrorists, it's interesting to remember that it was a Liberal/Democrat American president that allowed Iran to where be where it is today.
Carter championed the overthrow of the pro-American Shah in favor of a anti-American, religious, fanatic who promptly turned on Carter with the now famous hostage crisis.
That decision helped cost Carter the presidency, and set the stage for the Islamic, fundamentalist, terrorism we see today. Yet, Carter has the arrogance to speak out against GWB, and the war on terror, at the Dems convention. Perhaps he thought people would forget his contribution to today's world of terrorism.

Exactly.
Carter bears a greater responsibility for the spread of radical Islam-with perhaps, the sole exception of Sayid Qutb-than any other historical figure over the past fifty years.
The man was the worst president-bar none-of the Twentieth Century.
