Will Zell Backfire on the GOP
CNN ^

Posted on 09/02/2004 6:23:58 PM PDT by MaineRepublic

From "Wolf Blitzer Reports" staff CNN Thursday, September 2, 2004 Posted: 5:26 PM EDT (2126 GMT) NEW YORK (CNN) -- Talking about his own party Thursday night, Democrat Zell Miller said, "Our nation is being torn apart and made weaker because of the Democrats' manic obsession to bring down our commander in chief." Talking about Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, Miller said, "This is the man who wants to be the commander in chief of our U.S. Armed Forces? U.S. Forces armed with what? Spit balls?" Miller's keynote address to the Republican National Convention was a passionate and pointed attack. "Motivated more by partisan politics than by national security, today's Democratic leaders see America as an occupier, not a liberator. And nothing makes this Marine madder than someone calling American troops occupiers rather than liberators," Miller said. His remarks came in sharp contrast to earlier convention speeches from moderate Republicans like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Rudy Giuliani.

This whole "Will Zell's speech backfire" is purely wishful thinking on the part of Liberals. The only people even thinking along these lines are the media and the Kerry Campaign.

It was Wednesday night.

"Talking about his own party Thursday night"

Not worthy of continuing if he can't get simple facts straight.

Absolutely. CNN is trying to defend its candidate (Kerry) by undercutting Zell's excellent speech. Zell will not harm the Republicans. He just bought them an extra half point, last night.

No suprise here.

The media trying to create a story.

I talked to a few random people in the office today who aren't political nuts and probably consider themselves independent.

They said they watched the convention last night and got goosebumps from Zell Miller, but were stunned at how all the post-convention coverage was hammering him. They wondered if they saw the same thing.

It'll backfire just like the swift boat ads "backfired". The blowback will be horrendous. It will get so bad that Ct will not only be in play but will be a dead heat.

Will Zell Backfire on the GOP

Funny...I don't remember any "Will McCain backfire on the Demoncrats?" articles when ol' Johnny was all snuggly with Kerry and Edwards.

Yep! The same liberals that have determined, without evidence, that the swift boat vets for truth are lying. Its the same old doodoo from the left - demonize the messenger, but don't contest the message.

This speech got overwhelming raves from just about all who saw it.

This Wolf thing is an attempt to smear Miller in the hopes that a negative opinion can be formed about the Miller speech for those who never heard it. This is all standard play book stuff. Make someone think they dislike something when they know nothing about it.

There are a lot of Reagan Democrats in my extended family, and a Reagan Democrat is Zell Miller's target audience. There are a lot of them out there; salt of the earth, becoming more religious as time goes along, proud of America, and increasingly out of step with the Democratic Party of the new millenium that mocks everything they believe in. They aren't ready to switch parties, but no way can they pull the lever for a Kerry.

That's Zell Miller's audience. There are a lot of Zell Millers out there, and they don't need much excuse to cross the line our way.
