In another sure sign of a campaign in disarray an desperate trouble, the Reverend Jesse Jackson has added his well-modulated baritone to the chorus of second-guessing and recriminations.
In a just-completed interview with Judy Woodruff of CNN's Inside Politics, Jackson took the bark off the Kerry campaign. He accused it of failing to reach out to its base, specifically claiming that the Kerry people had failed to reach out to blacks. Donna Brazile had been on earlier to discuss the issue, and it seems clear the Reverend is angry that he has not been given a more prominent role in the campaign.
Adding insult to injury, not only did Jackson call the Kerry campaign "not smart," he went out of his way to praise Karl Rove and the Bush campaign. He said that the Bush campaign is smart to begin by solidifying its base and then reaching out to other groups, whereas the Kerry campaign is ignoring his base.
Jackson was also furious that Kerry had refused to participate in some kind of Appalachian events that Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH had organized. Jesse's been dissed, and he's ticked.
He then complained about the lack of hard-left speakers at the DNC. Among those he cited who should have been given a prominent perch? None other than . . . Maxine Waters!
Finally, employing one of his trademark flights of English, Jackson criticized the recent reshuffling of the Kerry campaign. He said: "a shakeup shouldn't be a vanilla shake," apparently displeased that more blacks and other minority groups weren't brought into the lily white Kerry inner circle.
Yes, the Democrat wailing and gnashing of teeth, the backbiting, finger pointing, blame shifting, recriminations, accusations, excuse-making and backstabbing is a wonder to behold!
Let the games begin!
Sounds like somebody didn't make an adequate "contribution".
Jesse's just trying to do a little shakedown action. He wants a little of the Kerry campaign money since it's basically useless.
He also wants to see if he can get a little of that Soros money and the Moveon(over) money...
If Kerry just paid him off, he'd be singing his praises in hell...
Does this qualify me as a political analyst and will it get me some of that money that Jackson makes giving his opinion? ;-)
LMAO.
Warming up in the bull pen is none other than that pig HILLARY RODDDDDAAAAMMMMCLINToooooooooooN
Amazing! This is the kind of thing that happens when the campaign is OVER..........like the autopsy of a failure. But it's happening two months BEFORE the election.
Heheheheh.
If Jesse drives down black turnout, Kerry's done for sure.
Mary Beth Cahill and Tad Devine will be gone by the end of this week, either officially or in real terms.
LOL. In my neck of the woods, "Bush Must Go" signs outnumber "Elect Kerry" signs by perhaps 5 to 1. In other words, as you suggest, while there's anger on the left against Bush, there's no love lost for Kerry.
I really do feel sorry for Donna Brazile, she is a very smart lady who actually would have something to offer the Kerry "campaign," but they are too haughty to ask her and she is too smart to jump on a sinking ship now. If she came on board now it would look like brazen racial window-dressing.
Funny, I don't remember the democrats ever catering to the AA vote. Maybe Jesse is seeing that the Dems take the AA vote for granted. Of course, he is about 20 years too late.
"Vanila Shake"
PRICELESS!!!
Jackson can't energize much of a base anymore and it shows. But--if Kerry is dumb enough to believe that Jackson knows how to get him elected (by pandering to the black community)----let him do it.
Dittos. I have been impressed at how level-headed, insightful and fair she has been in her TV appearances. Much more mature and reasonable than the typical Dem hack.
No--Jesse is no repub. His coffers need influx and Jesse did not get his "payoff".
Silly Jesse, he should know by now that African Americans only get so far and no further by supporting Democrats.
When Rainbow Coalitions Attack!!!
Possible bumper sticker slogan??
Vote Once, Flush Twice.
I ate it all.
I always get Maxine (can't hold her) Waters mixed up with Redd Foxx's sister on Sanford and Sons.
